Growing number of stalls - slow going
-
Just looking for some advice on growing my number of stalls. I have one premium account and one basic. With the basic account, I make about $3k hbs a day from showing.
My trend right now has been to have almost all of my foundation mares be pointed and experfect or exproducers. As i've run out of pointed creates, I make occasional zero point mares in pretty colors. I have limited speldings. I have been buying over 250 pt foundation rescue mares, preferably 9 years old.
My idea was to breed all these FR mares to my high PT stud for bootstrap foals (well, keeper mares, auction colts), then throw the mares in the auction at 10 and replace the mares. As it turns out, i'm only finding really low pointed FR mares right now, so i'm hesitant to put these 300+ point FR mares in the auction even though they're 10. If I keep them another year and they made me more daily HBs, and I can sell another crop of foals, that's a bonus.
My problem is that I run out of stall space constantly on the basic account. I've been buying iv's as often as possible to buy more barns, but it just feels like really slow going. I've been able to buy two 15 stall barns (I was impatient), but I feel like I may be missing a strategy that would allow me to increase my barn space more quickly without spending real money. Thoughts? -
I've sent you a little bit of money to help out and some straws for your bootstrap herd. Show horses are most important for making money, the more barns that you can fill with show horses the better. Also, be strict with your breeding herds and auction the rest for some quick money.ID 213454Thanked by 1lecobb8

Also sent some HBs your way. Keep the pastures for breeding, barns for yearlings and show ponies. Run every foal through Strict Breeding Advice, and then geld/spay the others that don’t fit with your breeding goals.Licensed for: All Axiom Genes, All Rainbow Riot 1 & 2 Genes, Splash M, Phantom except for Wisp, All Ice, Mushroom, Onyx, DFP2, Shatterglass, Chinchilla, Platinum and Height Regulator

The Foundation Rescue trick worked great for me when I joined two years ago, but you won’t find many pointed horses now because a lot more people know the secret :)I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!

ALso ; leave the mares in the pasture , while you wont get more points from showing them ; they will still bring in their daily HB's and that will give you a little more room for show horses
General rule of thumb is 2 or 3 show horses for every breeding horse :) -
To piggyback on what @annismyrph said, you CAN get points showing mares in pasture, it's just a process. What you'll need to do is pull the mares out of pasture, put them whatever barn has enough space for them, show them, then put them back into pasture in the same day. As long as you make sure you're nowhere near 12am game time, your pasture bonus will stay on. Don't be like me and forget you did it, because if it crosses 12am game time it counts as a new day and the pasture bonus goes away.
On my Forest server account, I show every single one of my pasture mares every week. I have a mare that's made leaderboards for points twice since I've owned her. It definitely helps my show bonus, and I need every hb I can get right now.
Another tip that was just shared with me was to buy up the highest pointed elderly horses at auction. Yes, you gamble that they might pass away, but you get the show bonus in the meantime. If you have four 20 year olds earning 250 each, that's 1000 hbs per day. For younger horses it could take you 30-50 horses to make that much. And just because there's a chance that they'll pass away at 17 doesn't mean they will. There are horses on the game that are 30+ years old. So if you have one horse making 250 per day and they live to 30, that's 13 real life months that they live past 17 rollover... that's approximately 390 days, which means a profit of 97,500 for those years that you didn't expect it to live. :D Good luck though, it can be stiff competition sometimes buying up the high pointed geriatrics lolThanked by 1OrionsStables -
Tawny and Helen, I can't thank you enough for the financial boost!
Ktarpey, I've been showing my pasture mares like you mentioned. It's a PITA, but worth it for me to do the extra legwork right now. Thanks for the tip about the elderly horses. I'll give that a try!Thanked by 1HelenofTroy -
Thanks for posting this! I'm just here to read, and learn as affording stalls has been a problem on the different servers for me as well :-?Post edited by WolfRanch at 2022-01-04 07:53:30

The others all gave great advice so I won’t repeat it, but I’ll simply add that it is kind of slow going, that’s normal. I also showed all my horses, hunted for pointed creates, etc.
I found it was very slow going getting up to a 10,000 a day showing bonus, but from there it got easier and easier to expand. It feels more exponential than linear once you get past 30,000 a day or so. I’d say make small goals and try to have fun with a bit of breeding along the way. The more you put into IVs for barns the better, but it is going to take a couple months, so definitely experiment a bit with cool colours along the way.
It sounds like you’re on your way by getting to 3,000 a day, congrats!ID #265959 | He/him | Breeding Black Satin, Liver, and Grullo Arcturus Horses | Licenses: Mushroom, DFP2, Onyx, Axiom Blue and GreenThanked by 1lecobb8
