SWM question - ANSWERED
  • I'm not completely sure of exactly what Splash M is or does. I understand Splash in general and have done a bit of research on Splash genes, both in-game and IRL. But I can't find anything explaining Splash M. A search for SWM horses sans other white genes seems to reveal that it's typically a fairly jagged and patchy Splash pattern. But what makes it different from the other Splash genes(other than the license requirement)? Is it based on a real or theoretical gene, or was it just invented for this game? Any help to explain this would be great; I would love to understand the science of this one.

  • If I remember correctly splash M was added to the game to represent macchiato horses. But not 100% sure on this, would have to look back on my PC when I have time.

  • OK. I just did a bit of looking on the Macchiato horse. He definitely looks similar to the SWM pattern. That makes sense, thank you!

  • @MackZ : Splash M can also "Fade" out a horse , so a chestnut might look almost yellow and a black might look like a blueroan
    this is a "redroan" and to me he looks more like a Palomino or a cream type ;

  • Correct. It is the macchiato gene.

  • Yep, Splash M has ragged patches but also dilutes the coat a bit.

For example, here is a regular hom DP hom sty chestnut horse:

Here is a hom DP hom sty chestnut with splash M:

You can see the faded/diluted patches very well.

Here is a chocolate palomino (hom sty hom DP) with and without splash M:

And here a hom sty Bay with and without splash M:

A StyS+ hom DP bay with and without splash M:

A hom DP hom sty Brown with and without:

You can see the patchy dilution very well on her thigh.

Even a regular black gets diluted a bit, you can clearly see the whiter/lighter patches that the Splash M produces:

Add in some KP2 to the mix and the patches of Splash M get really loud and clear:

I really love splash M, so here are a few of my favourites:
DP buckskin i9 base with S+ and WhiteM:

    MS4 CHOC LUVVV 15058837

    DP buckskin/PRL i9 base:

    MS3 LUV 14516655

As you can see here, splash M works really well with phantom genes (in this case Diamond Sparkles).

ND1 DP (brown) Buckskin with S+ (i love the dark dapples combined with the bright white of splash M):

Hom Satin hom DP palomino with KP2:

To me it seems like the Splash M gives the satin some extra shine and depth haha

I hope this helped you understand Splash M a bit better :)
