already bid on?

I saw this horse and even though the auction is Sunday, there are already bids on some horses, like this one. can someone explain why?
thanks -
The only bidder so far is the HuntAndJump Auction Bidder, who always makes the first bid even before the auction begins. The reason the bid isn't the usual 2500hbs is because this horse is over 10 years old. Horses auctioned over 10 years old go for their lifetime payout as a minimum bid, which is why a lot of players do a purge of their show horses when they turn 10.

@CLynnRose does this mean that I could buy 9yo foundation rescues at the end of the month and then turn around and auction them for a profit at the beginning of the next month?Thanked by 1Fiddler

I never really thought of that before but yeah, I guess you could. It looks like there are quite a few 9 yo foundation rescues with decent points as well. And if you use the mares for brood in pasture just to make foals to sell too you could make even more profit.Thanked by 1Fiddler

@BlessedbyBrigid you could do that. I have done that in the past and used the mares for embyro transfer before auctioning them.
That is my horse in the original post and yes, it is time for lifetime payout. He doesn't actually bring in much in show winnings and has reached his peak score.Thanked by 1Fiddler -
