liver and chocolate
-
I've been poring over the genetic reports of my chocolate and liver chestnut horses, and they seem very very similar. can someone make this a little clearer for me?
Obviously there's no chocolate or liver gene, are they just shades of the same color based on luck?
thanks -
Having Sooty plus DP (either Sty/Sty & DP/- or Sty/- & DP/DP or Sty/Sty & DP/DP) will make a liver horse if the horse is e/e. The same is true for chocolate palomino - the only difference is that there must also be a Cream gene. Basically you are darkening either a regular chestnut horse vs. darkening a regular palomino horse.
Sooty and DP have a darkening effect on Bay and Dun horses as well, although I think that these horses are still just called Bay, Brown, Buckskin, etc.
