pasture bonus
-
is the mare's pasture bonus measureable? is it extra points, or do the foals born with the full bonus test out better? I just can't wait!
thanks -
there are 2 ; first is at 15 days, second at 30 days ; they pass their "Bonus" to the foals ; which means fewer foals that dont pass breeding advice, they can paper better and have higher PT scores. Its not just 1 thing its a combo of all 3 ; you just arent sure which one gets bumped upThanked by 1Fiddler

This is not correct. Every day is cumulative. 5 days is better than 1e day. 10 is better than 5 etc.
The pasture bonus helps push the random numbers up to the higher end of what a mare can randomly produce. It does not give you any better foals than you could theoretically get by hand breeding but the random rolls will be higher making pasture foals better on average.Need to contact me? Read this first.

All horses have a 'range' of breeding ability (the hidden numbers that we can't see). If you were to breed the same stallion to the same mare each breeding season, the resulting foals would vary in ability within the range (that's why some foals of a pairing will pass breeding advice and some won't). A mare that has been in pasture for 30 days or more will produce a foal that is towards the top of her breeding range. I don't think there is any pasture boost for stallions (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) but a stallion's range will also have a bearing on the quality of the foal.Thanked by 1Humboldt

I think I was typing the above just as Ammit posted her explanation!Thanked by 1Ammit

Thank you Ammit ; I was under the impression there was only 2 "bumps" not that each day added on :)
-
but when you take them out of the pasture, doesn't the "bumps" go away?

Ammit changed it so that you can take the mare out for an hour or so without losing her bonus, but, like Cinderella, she has to be home by midnight (aka nightly rollover) or she will lose her bonus.
