Boosting Broodmares Discussion
  • I've found great success using SUP Broodmares and AGA Studs. I'm still getting quite a few nice mares that are AGA and I'd like to boost.

My question is for those who do boost mares...are you saving by only boosting 1 percent at a time till they pass SUP or is it just easier to do the 5 percent boost and be done?
    Projects:
    - Lined KitM (black base lines) & (chestnut base lines)
    - Leopard Appaloosas
    - Overall PT development/increased show potential
  • Since the 5% is cheaper unless you know you only want one or 2% you are probably better off with the 5.

I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

  • Is there a way to tell? I guess I'd just have to try a few with the 1 percents and see if it goes past 2. probably depend on the herd and current breeding

  • I almost always use a 5% boost. However most of my boosting is for bootsrap horses. It's cheaper for me to GM a perfect colt into a mare, or GM a mare that missed a gene, than to boost.

The only exception to the 5% boost is with studs. Then I go one at a time, because in the past I have boosted a stallion way beyond his generations breeding abilities. It threw my generational lines out of balance, it was like breeding a 4g mare to a 5g stud. It was a mess, I finally ended up scrapping every generation higher than his so 5g +, then I got rid of him, and am currently working on breeding the perfect 4g stud to breed to my 4g mares. After that mess I’m a little shy of using boosts in my even lines. Mare’s aren’t as critical as a stud, because they can't have 50 foals every game year.
