Why do people seem to prefer GMT'ing chimeras?
  • I've noticed that a lot of the heavily GMT'd foundies are chimeras. Occasionally, I see people use it for a really striking patchy look (like grey + another color), but more often, it's nearly the same thing on each color.

I haven't delved much into GMTing yet, but this just strikes me as a waste of money? Double the GMT cost, and you aren't sure which you're going to "use" when you breed.

    Help me understand the point?
  • Breeding a chimeric horse increases your chance of getting a chimera foal - however small that chance may be.

There's a mentality in this game where more cool genes=better, the more +s and Ms I can cram onto one pixel pony the more I like it!

In my case, this game is the only thing in my life where money doesn't mean anything so I can just throw assets around like nuts and it doesn't matter. I have a daily show bonus of around 700k so money ain't no thang. Wish it was like that in the real world....

I'm guessing you saw my newest horse-child in the facebook group and thought what is this crazy doing... lol

  • Especially when buying closed genes I like to put them on a chimera so I can maximize my other genes. I really love silver black and sable. Getting both, separately, on my newest project stud is always a bonus.
  • Most of my chimeras have just a slight variation in each in gene set. So while they're fundamentally the same I like the little bit of variety I can get.

But also I have some herd helpers I adore that happen to be chimeric, such as this pieces of 8. Some of the chimera HHs also have a good base breeding quality.

  • Actually, all chimera herd helpers are rank specials and at least perfect breeding quality.

  • chimeras confuse me, because while it's all silver and dark, it might contribute like the bay half of it is.. it's like you have two horses, and you don't know which one of them will contribute genes

  • @Fiddler That’s exactly right! Chimeras are created when two embryos fuse together very early in the pregnancy. Each embryo had its own DNA set, so both sets are fused into one embryo. It’s a pretty much 50/50 chance of either set being passed down, which is what makes it so fun! It’s literally two horses in one body.

I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!

  • @Ammit see I wasn't sure so I didn't want to spread misinformation! Thanks for sharing :)
  • I sometimes use chimeras because alot of RSs are chimeras, but when I do, I always only GMT one strand, and then make that strand 100% heritable. Because I often clone my special foundations, and only the first strand clones :)

  • Question about setting inheritance: if you choose 1 side to be 100%, does that influence the chance that the foal will be a chimera? Like the chance is say 0.01% with two horses set to default 50/50 inheritance, does it decrease to 0.005% if you change so one is guaranteed to inherit from one strand since in terms of breeding they're not a chimera at that point (as the reproductive cells are all one set of genes)?
  • Oh yes! Because there's usually a 50% chance of either strand producing the foal it's like a lottery of variety and you only get favorable genes!
  • you can choose which strand a foal receives?

  • @ichigo - it maayyyy have been your post that prompted the question, but it's one I've been wanting to ask for a while!
  • @Fiddler you can change it in the GMT lab to be 50/50, 75/25, or 100/0 for a specific strand to be chosen when breeding. You can only pick once before breeding though!

  • If you buy genes with real money they automatically go on both strands for the same price, so that's probably why there are so many doubles.
I love the look of chimeras so that's why I like to use them for GMT stallions, and I try to have both strands be colors I would want in my foals

  • Rainbow Riot genes on Chimeras are the absolute best, in my opinion at least. Watercolor will be different colors with each strand, and Toner and Inkspot do the same.
