If it was just today, I think you can still go rescue horses that go to the auction bidder even after a public auction, not just after selling back to the game. I think I did that once or twice when I had second thoughts about a horse I had auctioned, if I remember right. Do you see a buy back button on their "records" tabs?

Yeah, I feel your pain lol I hit Auction this barn instead of enter this barn once. But I don't think I knew at the time about getting them back. Just call me Oops.

@OopsDotCom that may be what happened, but I don't usually select all the horses before I hit the "Enter this Barn" button. /:

The ones i got actually fit really well into my breeding program so yeah lol they will get baby-fied
