Looking for Prons and Cons
-
I'm not a huge fantasy person, but in saying that I'm looking at maybe introducing a "fantasy line" into my Licensed lines ... or maybe turning my KiT Satins to fantasy or maybe even combining all into one line. (which will save me large amounts of time and probably hbs in the long run) Thinking about getting a new Chimera boy that will hold Onyx, Chinchilla and the new Platinum gene and reintroducing Chocolate into the mix.
Now I know that all genes won't show, but this is more for the "gene grab bag" like Sea Wolf was when I made him.
(shameless plug for Sea Wolf)
*CRVS1 Sea Wolf
I've left my Foundations in their pasture as I work this out in my head. Who would have thought that this would be such a big decision? ...
1. Does it sound like a good idea ... or am i crazy? Taking three lines and combining to one line (restricted line and Satin Chrome line with new Fantasy Line); taking two lines and combining to one (restricted line and fantasy line)?
2. What Chimera HH would be the best to use? (My Hidden Gate or New Coke merged with a different one what was I thinking)
3. What KiT genes would look interesting? Or would you leave it without them? Keeping in mind no LP ...
Again I'm not versed in the Fantasy genes that much so this is a huge step for me in the game .... -
Just remember that Chinchilla overrides Platinum.
-
Well, for myself, I tend to keep all of my fantasy genes in one line because any one of them will bar horses from the non-fantasy breeders clubs, so I figure they may as well have enough fantasy genes to be eligible for at least two or three fantasy clubs. Then all of my non-fantasy but expensive genes (mushroom, satin, sooty+, etc.) are in a separate line so those horses can join all those clubs. If you care about breeder's clubs that's something to consider, otherwise just breed for combinations that you like the look of and as many lines as you want or have room to support.
-
The only Breeder Clubs that I actively go for is Brindle and Snowflake the rest are really just entries. In saying that I'm not doing as good on the LB so its really not a huge deal for me; sort of just going through the motions on that side. This is more like a "whatcha got" sort a thing as the different genes show up in breeding.

I think I got it
15859070HiddenGate
1. Change to a Boy, remove LP
2. Platinum on First strand with Hom Chocolate
3. Chinchilla on Second strand with Hom Oynx
4. Maybe Satin it all up if I have some $$$ and or IV's left over
Whatcha think? -
Buying genes from the RGS puts them on both sets of a chimera (unlike the GMT lab which only does one set at a time). The only way to get a chimera with RGS genes on only one set is to modify 2 non-chimeras with the genes you want then merge them in the GMT lab.
Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

I personally do it this way:
Chinchilla line
Mushroom satin line
Fantasy line (as many genes as I can get onto a horse)
And now my new platinum line. All of my lines include Kit genes so that’s not really a factor for me. :) -
I if you intend to use phantom or shatter you need some kit, if you plan for mostly ax you can go either way, RR and ice give really cool patterns with kit but it's not necessary, if you focus on other (dfp2/plt/onyx/mu/chin) I'd go with minimal kit.
Here's an example of a fantasy done with bonefire, he's going to get W/R so it doesn't matter but he has too much white to be good for a non-ax stud
MGD Niflheim NoelLicensed for:
All Axiom
Ice: 9, 13, 15-19
RR: wt, PBC, PBW, Nac
PHAN: dmsp, lace, sku, hrt, shm, jelly, pmk, bird, crit sun star.
Other: everything but SPM and jewel -
Well that just blows all my plans right out of the water ... never tried this on a Chimera and didn't realize you can't do individual strands.
I would normally do a separate line, but I have three going so far; my Lp only Appie line with Snowflake, Halo, Spot Reg, Tiger Eye, Sun/Snow, my KiT line no LP, my Satin Line in LP only Appy line.
I was going to combine my Splash M/ DFP1 and DFP2/ Mushroom line into my Satin KiT line and then Add the new guy in ...
Oh well back to the drawing board -
Yeah the only way to do individual strands is in the GMT lab. If you use the RGS, it’ll do both strands.
-
You can also make a chimera in the lab. So i think if you took 2 horses and made one each half of the chimera with the RGS you could then merge them?
I haven't done it myself, but I've had the option for horses that could be modded to be combined also, so maybe it works on horses with fantasy genes added too? -
You can put genes on with the RGS and then remove from one strand in the GMT lab to get het... but that seems like a real waste of money.
-
No I'll just have to figure out different RS to use and merge them. I've merge a few before but it was simpler with the Hidden Gate; just can't figure out which one to use, too many choices.

I was going to combine my Splash M/ DFP1 and DFP2/ Mushroom line into my Satin KiT line and then Add the new guy in ...
I will now make it a point to check these out. I love DFP with mushroom. My DFP line has Satin and KP mixed with it.
I have earlier gens staying more strict with fantasy vs non fantasy now that we got more breeder clubs. But my 5th gens are mostly mixed up.
