Contest idea - any interest?
  • Hey everyone, I’ll reach my goal for daily payout next month and I was thinking of putting together a contest with some prizes.

I could do another scavenger hunt, but I had a more complex idea and wanted to see if it sounded fun.

The idea is to start off with a group of foundation horses and give everyone a few months to try to breed the best papers, PT and aesthetics they can. The catch is that you cannot inbreed and you can only breed/buy other contestant horses. No mixing with your usual horses. You’ll have to work together with other contestants.

I would start with a big auction of foundation horses and give everyone a limited budget, say 50,000 to build their starting herd from. I would also probably limit the use of boosting and put price caps so that newer players aren’t disadvantaged.

Sounds fun? Sounds like too much of a hassle? Prefer scavenger hunts?

    Let me know!

  • That sounds SO fun! I love the scavengers hunts, but I am honestly loving the idea of this one, just a question/idea.
Would you get to keep the horses you bred?
And this is more of an idea, but I think it would be cool to have buddies (maybe based on the length of the time they had been on the game, ie. a newer player with an experienced player), so contestants would be paired with another player to work together. (This way players could also get to know one another)
And if there was an odd number of players then 3 could be grouped together.

    I LOVE the idea regardless!

  • I like MiaMoo's idea, pairing up a newby with someone with experience. The trouble is, as a newby, I don't know how much space you are thinking, how many horses, will there be a limit? Like a stallion and 3 mares?
    I don't know... I'm a newby, but i'd like to play
  • Good questions!

@MiaMoo contestants would absolutely get to keep the horses.

@fiddleroo I was thinking that players would start out with maybe 3 mares and then could bid for a couple more or a stallion. You probably wouldn’t start out with more than 5. I’ll think about a rule that would limit it more to help folks with fewer barns, but we do have to have enough horses to follow the no inbreeding rule.

And yeah, I like the buddy idea! I’d probably give people the option to sign up alone, but teams would be awesome.

  • what's the no inbreeding rule?
isn't bootstrapping inbreeding? ( I've never done it)
  • That would just be something unique to this contest to encourage working with other players’ horses more.

Normally, there’s no harm in this game for breeding sires or dams to their offspring or breeding siblings, etc. That can happen in both bootstrapping and even breeding, although it would almost always be the case with bootstrapping approaches.

  • This sounds like fun, please count me in.
  • That sounds amazing! It would be really cool to start a bootstrap line from foundation to a super long pedigree.

  • Is this plan still in the works?
