Boost this boy or not?
-
He's C papered. If I boost him, will that have a positive effect on his foals? Like maybe, less snipped?
And if I boost him, do I need to breed him to reds or still to yellows?
G1 C Little Boy Blue 13081570 -
It depends on how much you boost him. I think it takes a full 5% boost to get a C to a B, but I'm not sure. You'll have to paper him again after the boost to see where his new breeding ability is. When it comes to getting more intact foals, it's still more important to breed horses together of equal ability rather than horses of higher ability itself.Thanked by 1OopsDotCom

Like maybe, less snipped?
That isn't how breeding quality works. The only way to get fewer snipped foals is to breed matching ability with 30-day pasture bonus. But honestly, I do not understand people's obsession with getting the smallest number of snipped foals. If you want him to have BETTER foals boost him. What you breed him to will decide how many pass testing or not but if you boost him you are guaranteed to have better foals.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Better breeding quality does not mean less snipped foals. On evenly matched Exceptional Producer stallion/mare crosses, I get a 40/60 passing SBA vs getting snipped with them in full pasture bonus. You want show foals so this isn't a bad thing.
If you want more intact foals, then breed him to Yellow mares, perfect foundation quality.
If you want better foals, boost him 5%, breed to red mares but you may not get as many intact foals.Thanked by 1OopsDotCom -
Also, though I am not sure about this ; Your Stud has almost 300 foals ; I think you d have to sell them all back to the game to boost him? But again Not sure about this ; please check with others first as I dont boost. @Humboldt ; is this correct?Thanked by 1OopsDotCom

Oh yeah that's right. Horses have to be unbred and under five(?) years old or so to be boosted.
Edit: From the boost token page: "You may add a Plus One Boost Token to any of your horses that are 4 years old or younger, have no foals and have been given less than 5 boost tokens in the past."Post edited by Cavalynn at 2022-06-14 10:59:06Thanked by 1OopsDotCom -
Ok, thanks everyone. Thank you for explaining.
Do I just breed him to other yellow Gen 1 mares, or am I better off to use one of those perfect foundations?Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-06-14 12:02:47 -
If your goal is more foals passing breeding advice then breed to Gen 1 Yellow mares. They would likely help him be closely matched. He is not a perfect foundation so mares that are perfect foundations could technically be slightly better breeding ability than him. I don't know if it would be much of a difference to matter.Thanked by 1OopsDotCom

Thank you.

Isn't a horse that passes SBA superior to it's sire and dam?
-
Not necessarily, it could be close to its sire or dam or slightly below. I use SBA and then comparison test to get only superior foals.Thanked by 1OopsDotCom

Thanks

Wow is comparison testing a fast way to dispose of your hb.Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-06-22 12:33:59

Yes, it is expensive, but since I get at least 300,000 hbs daily as my showing bonus payout, it's not that expensive in the long run. Keep all your show horses and you'll get there.
