Happy birthday! Do you breed any specific genes? I would love to send you a few straws or eggs if you can use them!

So a little backstory on my special ability hehe. When I was still in the awkward "loosing teeth stage" of childhood, I lost both my front teeth at the same time. My grandmother had just taught me to whistle a few months before this, and she told me, very matter-of-factly that it was impossible to whistle without your two front teeth. So, being the ridiculous stubborn child I was (still am? Ha!) I did in fact teach myself how to whistle without my front teeth. Very well, much to my parents chagrin. ;)

Growing up, I had a mocking bird family that lived outside my window. I tried my best to imitate all their calls, but they were cheeky, and learned cell phone jingles which I couldn't imitate. I was an only child in a household with two parents who worked very long hours, so I was a master at amusing myself. I picked up most of the local bird calls very quickly. Fast forward many, many years, I now can whistle breathing in and out (which means I can whistle pretty much infinitely), as well as very quietly and very, very loudly. I have an impeccable bird call, that tends to freak people out if they don't know it's me. I'm certain it's fairly annoying too, as I tend to whistle to fill silence and stim. @khaosacres can vouch for me as she's heard my whistle probably more times than she can count hahaha.

I’m a farrier and blacksmith. This surprises people because I’m pretty tiny. It surprises people even more when they find out that my specialties are foundered horses and problem horses that are difficult to work on.

Another weird ability is that I have a condition called synesthesia. Synesthesia is the association of color attached to one of your sensory perceptions. My specific type is called Chromesthesia, and that means that I see sounds. It makes it really easy to learn to play new pieces of music by ear.

When I was in college,. I'm pretty sure that my special ability was writing research papers in a mad rush the night before and still getting As on them =))

My other special ability would be that I can get almost any animal to trust me no matter how scared or feral. I've tamed so many over the years and it just comes naturally. One of these days I'll have the space to adopt a Mustang, but I did tame a little fully that had never been touched a couple years ago and she became and absolute pet who loves people :D

Thank you for all the well-wishes, fellow members! I am enjoying what everyone's sharing thus far but will keep thoughts about specifics to myself until I make final decisions known.

To offer something about me, I am quiet in most situations, but I love singing karaoke. My more-outgoing sister finds the thought of getting up and singing nerve-wracking.

To those who offered to send something, thank you. I have a basic upgrade and can use straws. I breed black-based horses, specifically black tobiano, roans, and Kit M. Basically I'm tight with the kit locus. Or if you have any fancy fantasy speld that's going to auction, I'm up for a fun addition to my herd. EDIT: You are not at all expected to give me anything. I truly wanted only to celebrate by giving back.

The decisions are in. Here are my rankings:

1- @BlessedbyBrigid: I like working with my hands and making stuff, but I don't think I'd have the guts to be a farrier. I have read about different varieties of synesthesia and think synesthesia sounds like such an interesting condition to have, that it adds spice to your life. Do you see colors when you are hitting things at work?

2- @OscarWildin: I love music, and I am glad that there are bass players out there because they fill out the bottom of a sound so well. They deserve more respect. I enjoy watching Charles Berthoud's videos, as he is so skilled. I was at a street performance night, and one person there was a very good bass player. I tried an upright bass on one occasion and really enjoyed it, but it's an expensive thing to take up.

3- @Cherobird: I'm good at sounding like myself, and that's about it. About the only bird call I can sort of do is the mourning dove, and even then it's sketchy. I'd love to learn how to do the common loon so I could freak people out. I had a cockatiel for a few years and can still recognize the calls.

4- @Northernlightsstables: That is spooky! I have nothing of the sort and not sure if trying would do anything or if I'd be reading stuff into a situation that should not be there. I find algebra much easier than people.

5- @Starstruck2: That first one is, um, admirable from a certain point of view. I was always more the opposite way, getting stuff going from the get-go and am not sure how well I would have done using your approach. The second impresses me. We could have used you with the barn cat kittens we had over the years, as skittish seemed to be the standard-issue temperament.

6- @Fiddler: I can't leave you and your stupid human tricks out. I'm glad you are still active enough at your age to do that.

I missed this while I was on a float trip! Thank you! Yes, I do see sounds at work. Hot steel is usually bright pink and it fades and changes as it cools to a dull yellow, with some variance depending on the size of bar stock, hammer weight, and anvil being used. My gas forge is pale lavender and I can tell when it’s getting to the last 1/4 of fuel when it darkens. Nailing a shoe is bright blue to teal depending on nail size and hoof wall thickness. Shod hooves on a concrete floor are orange and bare feet are brick red.
