Kit M, W1, w2, w3, w5, w8, w10 all cause the word 'white spotted' in the color name.
Other KIT genes such as Tobiano, Roan or Sabino will cause white markings but will show up as their respective gene in the color name (i.e a horse with KIT Tobiano will be called a Tobiano, not white spotted)

Appaloosa is a different gene to white spotted. LP causes appaloosa spots but is not considered 'white spotted'.

So to get a 'White spotted Appaloosa' colored horse you'd have to have a horse with at least one 'white spotted' gene (listed above) and at least one copy of LP (appaloosa)

w20 is a white booster, w20 will (normally) cause larger/more white markings when combined with any KIT gene (this includes white spotted, tobiano, sabino, etc.)

I was wondering about that too. I checked the horse search, and there's no W5 in the drop down list of KIT genes.
