Need to edit coat color
-
I want more blue and less of the grey/green. Is it the appaloosa that needs to be adjusted, or something else? I thought axiom b/b was a blue coat.

My guess would be it's the varnishing from the appaloosa changing the shade of the base coat so that the axiom shows differently. But I don't breed axioms so I'm not sure if that's always what causes the green/gray tones.Thanked by 1OopsDotCom

So I need to remove the Appaloosa? I didn't know appaloosa varnished?
(I added the genetics to the first post)Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-07-06 17:12:06 -
Is it the Kit Locus? I don't know what that means.
I removed one of the Lp, it made it worse not better.Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-07-06 20:28:00 -
I think I understood that all appaloosas varnish (except the Evergreen Boughs herd helper) though some may varnish more slowly than others. That's why when you do a search for appaloosas you see all the oldest ones at the beginning of the search have turned completely white. That coat color fading and varnishing out I think could be what's making the gray/green color in the axiom. But I'm not sure, because she is just a foal.Thanked by 1OopsDotCom

Varnish won't show on the gene test results, but it only expresses when appaloosa is present.Thanked by 1OopsDotCom

Thanks, but I don't understand this well enough to know what I need to change. I checked the white factor, it's medium. But when I removed one of the Lp, the splotch of blue on his rump got smaller, not bigger.

As I understand it, the Axiom color(when homozygous) will show on the white areas, while all other colors will be reversed or turn gray. I find that the Axiom colors show best on light colored horses and horses with white or Kit genes and plenty of white factor. Here are some examples from my barns: https://www.huntandjump.com/adv_search.php?runsearch=go&jump=0&owner=276208&56=0&57=0&58=0&59=0&60=0&61=0&72=2
I'm not completely clear on how the Axiom affects the colored parts of horses, but I read in a forum post that it reverses them. I need a more knowledgeable player to better explain that.Post edited by MackZ at 2022-07-06 20:55:14Might be addicted to pixel ponies...

I'm thinking of trying a tobiano on him. Is that Kit To? (I haven't found a place in the resources that describes what the different kits do. There's pictures but most I can't tell apart.)
edit...
I can't figure out how to add kit To to it, the only things that are there is the W20. I don't know if that should be removed, or the other one changed from - to W20 too, but I think two Kit W's kill the horse. I don't know if that applies to W20?Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-07-06 21:02:55 -
And Mack, thank you for showing those horses. Now I gotta quit drooling.
Changing the white factor to extensive made no changes.Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-07-06 21:16:08 -
here is what I am hoping to do with it

The only lethal white genes are W1, W2, W3, and W2. Splash 2 and 3 are also lethal in Homozygous form. W20 is not lethal, it increases the expression of white when another Kit gene is present(except Roan). Adjusting the white factor won't do anything unless you have a Kit gene besides W20.
When looking at the Kit Locus genes in the GMT lab, TO is usually the second one down. You have to select the allele you want the Kit gene on, then it gives you a list of gene options to select.
Edit: However, the foal you want to change is not a foundation horse, so you are limited by the genes of the sire and dam.Post edited by MackZ at 2022-07-06 22:07:55Might be addicted to pixel ponies...

In that case, you should just need a Cream gene. Prl and Sty are the only major color genes that are different between those two horses.
Edit: sorry, I just looked at the parents. Looks like Cream genes won't be available after all. GMTing a lined horse can be difficult because you are severely limited as to what genes you can add/subtract.Post edited by MackZ at 2022-07-06 22:07:18Might be addicted to pixel ponies...

You do not need to edit any genes at all. You just need to reseed the image.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Ammit, you come in and cut the gordian knot with one simple sentence. Thank you.
And it worked, she looks awesome.Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-07-07 00:12:42Thanked by 1Ammit -
Thanks everyone for your trouble. It does help to learn the things you tell me. Perhaps next time I'll be able to figure it out myself.
