The richness added to black horses with a copy of grey is so much richer and deep than the regular black.

Black with 1 copy of grey:

16103357

Black without grey:

16103372

Is this game specific or does grey add depth in RL horses too?

I'm not sure about the real world, but good eye! I never would have noticed this, what a pretty effect. :x

In terms of real world I think so actually (at least in foals/yearlings)! If true black horses are born mousier and eventually turn out to be true black, and black based gray horses are true black from birth and gradually turn white, then maybe? I think it really depends but that is a very cool catch in the game! I love that richness :)

I noticed that ultra jet black on the young gray blacks too! I just love the new gray update. That hyper-pigmentation creates such amazing effects. :)

Agreed! The Grey update has been probably the best update rolled out (imo)!
