Associated accounts?
-
I just tried to purchase a horse from a newer member, but I was not permitted to do so because my account and theirs are associated, but they don't have a premium upgrade. I wasn't aware that our accounts are associated, so I checked my "associated accounts list" and found 9 accounts that are not mine, nor do they belong to anyone I know. So, why are my two accounts associated with all of those accounts? Is it a bug? No one I know plays this game at all, so it can't be because of shared IP addresses.
-
sounds like a bug to me!
-
I ran into a person on one of the servers that I couldn't buy from because they were associated which was weird. I know it has it do with IP addresses but she didn't show on my associated accounts so IDKStarstruck2 on Bluegrass and Forest

Accounts can be associated because of being through the same internet provider. It’s not a bug just the way the game works. Maybe someone else can explain it better.Post edited by Wingedeagle at 2022-07-10 20:12:14

Large ISP's, especially, are assigned a certain number of Internet Protocol Addresses. Whenever some who uses that provider logs in to the Internet, the computer is temporarily assigned one of those IP addresses. When that player logs off or shuts down the computer, the IP address goes back into the pool and some other player may receive it. So, if someone else uses the same Internet Service provider that you do, you both may be given the same IP address at different times, and your accounts on HaJ get associated.
Players who attend the same college of university may also find themselves sharing an IP address with someone they don't know. Students who happen use school computers to play can also end up with assosciated accounts.
I hope that this helps to explain how you became "associated" with total strangers.Thanked by 1MackZ -
oops. That should have been "college OR university."
-
oh that sounds annoying!
-
Is there any way that can be fixed or a work-around?Thanked by 1MackZ
-
I don’t believe it can be “fixed,” this has happened in the game for as long as I remember.
-
A work-around that I think is allowed if the accounts truly aren't connected is to have another player act as a go-between.Thanked by 1ConfluenceStable

It really can't be "fixed" in the game programming, Oops, because it is the way the whole Internet works and has always worked, since I first started doing things on the Internet about 1998. The work-around suggested by CLynnRose is the only solution.

I'd be happy to help!Thanked by 1MackZ

So, in theory, does this mean that my account could potentially be permanently associated with any and all accounts used on devices that are on data on AT&T? Or that connect to the same wifi at some point?
I live in a tourist town and clean vacation rentals, so a lot of people use the wifi that I occasionally hook up to. -
if you both have basic upgrades I can add you both to a chat room ; the other person could put the horse up for sale ; I could buy it and then re sell it to you MackZ.

Eventually if IPs are no longer being shared they will no longer be associated.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Isn't there a way to manually give your computer a different ip? I'm pretty sure I read about it a long while ago. It's similar the way scammers phone numbers are not from the country they are in, they can change it somehow. If Ammit says it's okay, I'll see what I can find. Realizing of course, I may be totally out to lunch on this.Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2022-07-16 21:45:46

So, how would I be able to no longer share an IP address?
-
You can't. Given enough time, months to years, they might unlink eventually. Using this system we have taken incidences of cheating down to near zero. It went from a regular administration headache to a non problem. So we use this system even though there are some false positives.Post edited by Ammit at 2022-07-17 04:26:09Need to contact me?
