... Consider keeping an intact 2nd gen filly that went through basic testing but wouldn't pass strict? Mare in question is from boosted foundations and papered red after regular breeding advice. I didn't put her through strict because of this question, knowing she would fail.
The thing is she fits perfectly gene/color wise to breed to some of my superior to sire 2nd gen stallions (regular B foundations) I have. They are superior to their sires.
So as always it would be a gamble, considering she's probably high Red and they're mid level B, but my question is if you love a gene combination, would you keep her intact to breed? -
I personally would make the exception if I have plans for her and if she had what I was looking for. And since you're matching her breeding ability with similar studs, you should be fine. Just turn off testing and throw her into the mix!Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

Why not keep her intact? SBA was created mainly to help really cull horses. If you have the room to keep her and a plan to use her, I'd say keep her intact and enjoy her!

I would for sure, if I love the horse. I use always strict breeding, but if I get an outstanding horse in any way, I can settle with just breeding advice, just because it is more fun that way :)

Since most of my stock is from "mixed" parentage.. meaning boosted crossed with non boosted.. I don't normally run SBA until 4th gen or later. Most of mine don't pass SBA becuase of this. I use the papering on mares .. so if I blue mare has a gold filly I will not run any testing on the filly provided she has the coloring I am looking for. I will run the regular BA and I will paper her. If she papers aga her mother I will keep her..however if she papers worse.. no matter how much I love the color combo.. I will spay her.. I refuse to go backwards. The only exception being is if I could never repeat the breeding or if I can boost.

Thanks to all who replied :)
I think I know the direction I want to go with this, and will plan to go in the direction I see fit with I want. -
I always run SBA on all my foals, but there's no wrong way to play this game.

For sure I would keep her, I would breed her back to A papered stallions though as she must be a high Red to pass the first mare advice, and likely to get better foals that way anyway!
