Progressing lines (some woes)
-
Hi all
I've been cooking up a post like this for some time, but the addition of the max ability boost has made it pretty glaringly obvious that I am struggling with my higher generation horses. (absolutely love this new addition to the advanced facility pages though, hopefully I'll have better luck trying it on my lower gen ponies)
For reference, I breed for liver warmbloods as my main and largest line. I started with my own foundations ect, and have bred for real life years to reach the point I am at now, which is eleventh generation, even-bred horses. I unintentionally created a stallion/mare gap by keeping a couple as good as fillies (back when I was in the 8th-9th generations and struggling to get any intact foals at all). I have attempted to fix that by taking my best superior 11 and 10gen mares and cloning them, then boosting them. some gender swapping and comparison testing has told me that most of these new boosted clones should be similar in breeding ability to the studs I am breeding them too.
I have flushed the boosted clones for the last 2 seasons and have had embryos catapulted out everywhere, but have yet to have any even test as good as sire/dam.
I tried the Max ability boost on a couple of these foals (stud x boosted clone, foal failed BA, tested worse ect) just to see what would happen.
This one was not even able to be ability boosted, as in, he is already the maximum breeding ability that his sire and dam could have produced.
https://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=15882627
He is worse than his sire, worse than his grandsire and worse than his great-grandsire (all following the sireline). For reference, his sire (11 Kings Landing) is about as good as the grandsire (10 Westeros) and Westeros is superior to his sire (9 Lone Wolf).

This guy (also a 12th gen Kings Landing x a different boosted clone mare) was able to be max ability boosted, and still tested worse than sire afterwards.
https://www.huntandjump.com/horse.php?horseid=15882378
This filly is a 11th gen from a different 10g stud x a 10G boosted clone
She was able to be max ability boosted, and still tested worse than dam. tested as good as the dam's dam.
Anyway, this has been a huge wall of text so kudos to anyone that takes the time to read any of it, I guess my question is:
My crosses, that test about as good as each other in terms of breeding ability, are not able to produce anything even close to their own quality, which has been proven to me by trying out the Max ability boost feature. By my understanding that would rule out simple bad luck. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong, or where my bad apples might lie?

I am only on my 7th gen but I can tell you I ve kept nothing that tested aga in my breeding herd, I had some weird luck in that i get 1 or 2 colts / fillies every season test SUP to parent and am waiting for them to get old enough to breed. So, as much as i Hate to say it ; you might need to go back to where you kept aga and cull them out and start with SUP at that generation going forward. But again I am only on my 7th generation and havent hit 11th or 12 like you have :)

you lost me at catapulting embryos, but following

I think you may have hit the breeding cap. There is an invisible cut off line where you cannot breed a superior foal. You can boost beyond that line (even double boost with clones), but cannot breed beyond it.
I ended up double boosting a mare/stud combo and breeding them together. Their offspring test worse than their parents, than their parents original horses (5% boosted) and aga the rest of my non boosted horses in that line/generation. I could find one of these cap horses to sell you if you wish. -
I'm only approaching gen 5 but following for the good info!

Yup you are hitting cap.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I totally forgot about the breeding cap, I didn't realise I was so close that i'd already fallen over the edge of it haha! That makes sense, I will have to get some more boosts into that line then. There's still a few horses on the leaderboards from Old old lines that I want to overtake heeheeHJ1: 133971

@Silverstar I'd totally be open to buying some outside horses if they're even bred? :DHJ1: 133971

@SilverCreekFarm I’m afraid all of my cap horses are extremely long lined, I only have one even bred cap stallion who I’m not parting with, except straws. However if you want I could “loan” you a mare and stud combo that are proven cap horses for comparison testing purposes, and once you are done with them I can take them back.
-
@Silverstar, Could I buy 20 straws from a cap stallion? 221914 :)
-
can I see a cap stallion?
-
Not a lot of point in trying to go for even lines once you get to the cap. It loses even the slightest potential benefits.Need to contact me? Read this first.

@SharayahStables I’ll send some over this evening. If you have a possible preference you can look through my boys if you like. My cap stallions usually have a UE at the beginning of their name and a DDBST, agabm or cap at the end of their name.
@Fiddler
My even generation boy
8g Basilisk Raxstar
My stallion out of double boosted parents
UE Bright FireWater DDBST
A possible up and coming stallion, or mare. I haven't decided yet.
UE 15980767 agabm
At this point I have so many I just pick my favorites and geld the rest.

@Silverstar, how can ANYTHING be better than a horse which has over 14 points?!!!
thank you! -
Oh.
I am so glad I read this thread. I have been struggling with my higher gens on both servers, too. I don't think I'm at cap yet (just judging from my PT scores, which are so much better than they were even just last year!), but that could also be part of my problem. I thought I was just having horrific mare lag with nothing passing sba. -
So at what point do you hit the cap? Is it an arbitrary number? Or a way to tell? I had no idea Its existed hahaPost edited by Cherobird at 2022-07-22 16:51:56

Ok so if you hit the cap and can't get sup babies anymore how do you cull after that? Do you just keep the ones that are genetically what you are after, pass BA and only keep ones that have higher PT's? I'm just getting to 10th gen so this is all very interesting.
-
@Fiddler one with a PT of 15? Lol
The way I understand the cap is that it is the highest a star/gold can be, and above that line is where a fith paper level would be.
I personally am working on adding some fancy colors to my cap horses. However I am also culling bassed off of PT. -
I am a bit thick here. What is AGA? I also cannot remember what level you breed to what level. My horses are rubbish, even though I am having great fun!
-
@TazfanUK - AGA stands for As Good As, or About as Good As. It's one of the possible results from comparison testing. The other possible results are "Worse Than" and "Superior To". Superior horses are often indicated in their name by SUP, or something similar.
Paper levels are C to Yellow, B to Red, A to Blue, and Star to Gold.Post edited by MackZ at 2022-07-28 10:38:28
