stallion doesn't have the stuff?
-
Fiddlers Eggplant
so I have this beautiful stallion. no matter what I breed him to, the get doesn't pass SBA. he passed SBA himself ... doesn't that mean he should be a good breeder? am I doing something wrong with him? what kind of mare should I try? I had just one gold mare and her PT was just a little lower than his. nope! another neutered foal. any suggestions?
thanks -
Keep breeding him. 8 foals is not a lot to go by. Breed him to mares with a full 30 days pasture bonus. Does he test superior to sire?Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

It gets really hard with Star papered horses to get superior/SBA passed foals. And PT isn't related to breeding abilityPost edited by Starstruck2 at 2022-08-03 18:12:30Starstruck2 on Bluegrass and Forest

Was there a pasture bonus on the Mare?
If you want I might have some brood mares that you can try him on if you'd like

They aren't in the pasture though, but I'd be willing to put these girls up for brooding for you -
Some of the mares you are breeding him too are basically bootstrapping. You can't expect crosses that are uneven inability to produce intact foals.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I have the full pasture bonus on all of my mares.
@ammit, it's true, when i started, i thought i was just going to breed my foundations to him and like you said, bootstrap. Then i got a lot pickier and only bred him to the best mares I had, and didn't have better luck.
What you're seeing is my learning curve ..
Of course, I don't have many horses of good quality, everyone suggested i needed far more show horses than breeding horses, and I've kept to that goal, but
@corvus, I might like to take you up on that offer.
@haysstable, he tested about the same as sire. I figured for getting started, he would be ok.. It seems the higher the PT, the harder it is to get foals SBA'd. But all mares have full pasture bonus. I learned that one right away.
So don't give up. OK!Post edited by Fiddler at 2022-08-03 19:34:30 -
I looked at the mares you bred to him and you are still basically bootstrapping as they are so far behind him in quality. I am not talking about foundations. The problem is not the stallion it is not enough crosses to gold mares. If the mare is not gold don't blame the stallion for foals that are not intact.Post edited by Ammit at 2022-08-04 02:40:14Need to contact me? Read this first.

thank you, @ammit

I agree with others. One of the main reasons I only breed even pedigrees, even in later generations, is to have a better shot at even quality.Thanked by 1Fiddler
