I'm just starting to reliably have enough money to warrant comparison testing, and culling based on that.

I've seen people talk about benchmark testing their stallions to weed out the best ones.

So I took one of my 2G A papered stallions and started comparison testing him to his peers. I only did about 4, but they all tested AGA. Before I waste a ton of money, how many might I expect to test against before I find one rise to the top (or bottom)?

If your foundations are B/Red papered and your 2nd gen foals are A/Blue, I've found that there's not much use in trying to find a benchmark in the mix. I ended up wasting a lot of hbs doing that on my 2nd gens. They all seem to test AGA for that generation. It's 3rd gen and up that seem to warrant testing for a benchmark. But more experienced players might know something about this that I just haven't learned yet.
