Liver red duns can be found or made with certain herd helpers. The DFP1 will only show if the foal inherits DFP1 from the sire as well. If you like the stripeyness, I'd look for a stud with hom DFP1.

@Fiddler ; there are several on that list by Jimmy ; and all but 1 or 2 is carrying het KitM, sorry you'd have to be more specific on which one you mean :)

With the sire being EE and the dam being aa, you were guaranteed a black-based horse. The foal inherited pearl, which has no to minimal effect without another pearl or cream gene being present. The foal is homozygous for DFP1, but didn't inherit his dam's Dun (and his sire didn't have a copy to pass, so there was a 50/50 chance of a dun offspring), so the DFP1 doesn't have anything to activate on.
