Belton spotting has arrived!
-
What is belton?
Belton spotting is a new hypothetical gene based on a real-life phenotype in horses called belton spotting. There is a link between belton spotting and white marking suppression. It also seems to have a link to the tobiano gene. The exact mechanisms are unknown.
I have added to the game a gene called "pigment density regulator" with the allele Bl (for belton). Horses with the Bl allele will have reduced white markings and freckles of pigment breaking through their white markings. Hom. belton has more freckles than het. The presence of tobiano increases the number of freckles and hom. tobiano has an even great impact.
It only creates freckles into pinto markings but because it increases pigment density it does have an impact on appy markings wich are pigment density sensitive.
Belton has no restrictions or licenses.
How do you get it?
Belton can now be purchased for 5 USD a copy. It can also be obtained via the GMT lab for five tokens a copy. If you are very lucky you can create a copy. Belton spotting is pretty darn rare in real life, so it is not very common in random creates.
Here is a link to all the horses on this server with belton.
Here are a few pre-generated examples as well if you are interested.

He is not fully done his GMT work, but his legs!!! Love the spotting!
He is just het for Tobiano, as I also like roan and wanted to keep it.Post edited by Humboldt at 2022-11-21 05:43:43 -

I was not kidding about it suppressing white. Two copies really causes heavy white suppression.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Added one copy to one strand on my pretzel twist, subtle change
Before
After
I will definitely be incorporating this into my herd, I have a lot of white mutations in my herds and I don't like when foals come out all white and this should help with that problem :DPost edited by ichigo at 2022-11-21 07:13:12Thanked by 1SeahorseFarms -
Ichigo you didn't actually save a before image. It will look identical to everyone else. :)Need to contact me? Read this first.

I think it's just lovely!
-
It looks different on my screen, it was just going from solid socks to ticked socks. Silly cache making me think I did something right :P
-
@Ammit what does it do to Appy spots?
-
This is an amazing addition to the game, Ammit! I'm impressed by the examples that have been posted. Thanks for adding this intriguing gene to the game.Thanked by 1Ammit

He was the most gorgeous pinto lots of white
Phantom genes all through bats and critter tracks
I added two copies of belton and now he is solid very disappointed.
I wish I can remove one copy of belton to get his white back
And see the phantom
So bad on my part

@leefe, can't you get a refund on one copy?
-
@Leefe You should be able to refund both copies if you want, just take them off one at a time. It looks like both belton alleles were the last two things added, so you shouldn't have to undo anything else to get to them.
-
I decided to add it to my two upcoming chocolate foundation studs. Like Ichigo said I also have a lot of white mutations in that line resulting in totally white horses.
For now I leave them both heterozygous, but I might make one homozygous for it...
This one only had a patch of color on his neck/shoulder and 1 appy spot on his butt.
And after 1 copy he now looks like this:

@Leefe Belton spotting is a white suppression gene. This is what it does. If you want more white boost his white factor to max. I would try going to the max amount personally. ETA: I went a head and set it to Large for you. You can adjust it up or down one step if you want a bit more or a bit less white. :) You will have to pop him in the tack editor though to fix his tack. :D
I have a feeling people are not reading in the announcement where it says "reduced white markings" so I have highlighted that. It also says on the RGS page that it reduces white markings.Post edited by Ammit at 2022-11-22 04:13:33Need to contact me? Read this first.

@oatsman that is a beautiful horse, I think the best homozygous yet, but he's not
very red looking. -
@Fiddler, nd1 causes diluation without the primitive markings! I really love the variety of colors we can get with some simple rerolling. I think an interaction of his pigment modifiers on top of the dun dilution.
Linked below are some more fun variations of belton spotting!

I've rerolled some pretty grey colors a few times on him and I saved the images. If I can figure out how to add external photos I'll add some :)Post edited by Oatsman at 2022-11-22 17:59:16 -
My second Belton creation! He was something I had sitting around as a project until I knew what to do with him.

Something I've been wondering, will belton spotting reduce the chances of lethal white? Does it factor into the total white load?
-
No, it does not.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I splurged with my Breeders Club GMTs and made this mare to sneak some into my Era 13 line. I could have gone a little heavier on the white factor but I love her spotted legs!

@oatsman BRS Cordylines Garnet has a butterfly on his neck!!
@Leefe I'm obsessed! I had to check the genes because he looked like a chimera!
I've been working on this boy as a replacement for my retired stud, Augury. I've been rerolling him a lot trying for certain chimera patterns lol. His kp/kp2 interacts interestingly with the apples and tobi/belton. I also added a copy of frame on one strand. I have a feeling I'm gonna get a disproportionately large amount of lethal babies if i don't watch what I'm doing in my pastures :)) I also added the new jewel box tobi for sparkle.
$ OCR Premonition
I feel like I've been pulling eggs from this girl for ages, I'm hoping to finish her for Christmas! I lost one of my main mares i pull from recently and she'll be filling her place. I love belton with splash m! Really brings out the apples pattern.

Ammit, I love belton spotting! One of my favorite horses IRL has heavy belton spotting and usually passes it to his foals, it's so fun to have in game. Thank you for always keeping things fresh and fun :)Post edited by Oatsman at 2022-12-01 17:52:45Thanked by 1Ammit -
