How to be a Very Sneaky Santa
-
With the December Gift Exchange about to start I thought I would share a tip, for those participating, if you want to keep your Giftee guessing who you are until you can reveal your identity.
When you gift a horse through the GE, the records page of the horse does not show any information of the horse's sales record until after the event. However, the breed name of the horse is not suppressed, so it is possible to know who created the horse. If you give your Giftee only horses bred or created by you, it is possible for the Giftee to guess who you are.
If you want to try and avoid this, then you need to try and source some horses that have been bred by other people. It depends on what your Giftee's requirements are, but you can trawl the sales boards for likely horses to buy. You could approach someone direct and ask if they are willing to part with a particular horse (people are flattered to be asked, but be prepared for them to decline if the horse is part of their in-house herd). Similarly, asking people for straws if you tell them it's for GE will also work. If the straws have genes that you don't have a license for, then ask the owner if they are willing to send the straws direct to your Giftee so that you can remain anonymous.
When Gifting begins, start by giving mainly other people's horses, and drop one or two of your own into the mix. If you can, keep some of your own horses until last, that way, when you reveal that you are their Gifter, they will be completely surprised.
I regularly sneak this way - it adds to the fun! ;) -
Breed name issue should be patched this year. :)
I have been doing a TON of behind-the-scenes work on GE improvements this year.Post edited by Ammit at 2022-11-29 03:55:39Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Another thing to keep in mind for the people that use name markers. for example I use
“BL1” or “BL- something”
it’s not hard to figure out your Santa with these in the horses name so try to remember to remove them before gifting!Thanked by 1Xzeina -
That is helpful. I'm thinking of joining this year, so any tips are appreciated :)
