In need of H&J financial guidance
-
I'm not the best when it comes to making a foundi line and making it profitable. I need some advice on what genes sell properly and some advice on how to get generation 2 and up babies that sell for more than 3,000hbs. I've been here a couple years and I'm not making the progress I figured I would. Any advice is appreciated, as I am getting burnt out. I'd really like to have something I can fall back on other than my daily payout. Added to say, I have begun superior testing, and I'd like to get in to selling superior offspring, but from a separate line than my personal one.Post edited by BarnRaised at 2023-01-02 08:50:21

The best advice is to stop trying to make money selling horses. It doesn't work. You make money in this game by having a large show herd. Your daily payout can be hundreds of thousands a day. Everyone has nice foals already and seldom want to buy more.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

I just hit 200k a day daily payout, November was my one year anniversary. I keep as many spelded horses as I can shove into my barns lol. I also bought higher pointed foundation rescue horses to help bump up my payout more quickly. I could never make enough with sales to support my habit LOL
It feels pretty slow watching the income creep up for a while, but then as your horses hit their peak showing ability it really jumps fast. I also regularly sell off poor showers when they level off to make more barn space and get a quick cash bump, that plus auctioning off my culls keeps me pretty much financially stableStarstruck2 on Bluegrass and Forest

Step one is do not sell anything. Put everything in barns and set them to auto show and forget about them. That will bring in the most money for you. Selling in this game is just not worth it if you do it for profit.
Step 2 is to spay/geld anything you're not going to breed. Do step 1 with those. Keep up the superiority testing and make sure you like what you breed. If you don't like it, spay/geld and show it until it dies naturally.
Step 3 buy more barns for more show horses.
Step 4 is have fun.
I have played this game since almost inception, I did the above for literally almost a decade and I found myself extremely rich (but extremely hugely unmanageable lol) because of all of the horses I had kept over the years and the excessive breeding. I literally sold NOTHING. For YEARS. I bought barns with IVs and kept filling them. I made almost a million in daily bonus by doing this. I really had to cut back after a while because it became too much and I now auction maybe 25% of what I breed based on strict guidelines, but this is all after I had thousands on thousands of show horses and way too much money.Thanked by 1Fiddler -
So to put it in numbers for a bit of perspective:
I have just under 16,500 horses total.
Just under 14,000 of those are show ponies. And there will be more once I do my routine culling/sorting.
I make just over 900k hbs per day from my showing bonus because of all those show ponies doing their thing. Show ponies are the backbone of your stable. I know how much of a struggle it is starting out. I really wish I had started nowadays with all the awesome new player help/incentives. I joined in 2015 and had no clue what I was doing but here I am now! It's a slow and steady process but you'll get there if you just keep at it! I do highly recommend a premium upgrade if you can swing it. Having auto show is a life and time saver.Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

Now I had to check my numbers too lol, I have just under 8k horses (I had double this just like 3 years ago) and 6.5k are show horses which is around 85% spelds. I have 500k daily bonus.
Just want to point out that according to Hayes' numbers that is around the same percentage of show horses! Interesting.Post edited by ichigo at 2023-01-02 10:48:59Thanked by 1HayesStable -
something that i've learned here is that a horse type that YOU think is awesome probably isn't awesome to someone else, there are so many possibilities, it is hard to find people who are going to want your horses.. Breed them for yourself, and if you're lucky someone else will like them too, but not likely. Note how many horses do not get sold to someone in the auction..
when you start having foals with PT of 14, I bet you can sell them then.. -
Last breeding season I spayed and gelded a TON of my broodmares and colts. My breeding herd was getting out of hand. I kept the ones that were leveled off and the ones that had potential at earning more than 5 points.
I'll do my best to buy more barns, I'm hoping to keep any offspring spelded or not, from my bootstraps.
Thanks everyone. -
Fiddler makes a good point. I have a few breeding projects, but the only horses I typically am able to sell are the ones that have high PT scores and/or are at or near the breeding ability cap. Most players aren't interested in my foals from my color projects because everyone has their own preferences. I love my different color projects, and my goals are specific to me. Some players might have similar color schemes, but they typically already have their lines set up and don't need my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen babies for their lines.
Show horses are absolutely the best way to get any kind of supportive income in this game. I just passed my 1-year anniversary on the game, and the advice given above has gotten my daily payout to just over 180k. It takes some time and a bit of planning, but it definitely pays off! -
You'll be surprised, after a few months those show horses will buy those barns for you. A little bit adds up over time.
And to reiterate, when I say keep everything I mean EVERYTHING. Low PT and inconsistent horses still make money by showing and bonus.
