From what I remember seeing, it’s a random chance that has nothing to do with the actual horse.

I have noticed my damages are significantly higher too, like from 1-8 to 50-400

You can get that amount more then once though which can cost you a Total amount of 400 hbs in damages in a day. I myself have been getting 100 to 200 in total damage almost every day since this change was made.

HorseAngel the number of damages you get is based on the number of horses you have. Damages are very rare to happen for each horse.

Makes a little more sense now ... the more horses you have the higher damage chance you have and the higher damage amounts you can occur. I think ...

No the damage amounts are random. Every horse has a chance to cause damage every day but the chance is minuscule. If you have tons and tons of horses that change adds up though. The average is 75hbs worth of damage per day per 1000 horses you own. Those 1000 horses should be making you 10k or more per day so the damage amount is effectively nothing.

As the change log said, damages were no longer fit for purpose so they were being updated and reused as flavor instead of as a way to filter horse quality.

Corvus looks like that may be multiple days worth. It will all show on the same day even though they happened over several days between log-ins.

Ok here goes, not sure if I remember all the math right, but this largely makes sense with what I’m seeing.

According to the change log, individual horses can do between 1 and 150 damages. However, there’s only a 1 in 1000 chance that a particular horse will actually cause damage (between 1 and 150 hbs) on a given day.

Therefore, if you have 1,000 horses, on average you’ll have to pay ~75 hbs per day. If you have more, say 5,000 horses, on average you’ll have to pay more, say ~377 hbs per day.

However, I don’t think there’s an overall daily cap.

For example, with 5,000 horses (assuming only 5 do damage, following the 1/1000 proportion) you could get lucky and pay only 5 hbs or you could get unlucky and pay 750 hbs.
I think it’s also possible that 0 horses do damage and similarly possible that more than 5 do damage. So technically the best case would be 0 hbs total which is more likely than the worst-case of 750,000 hbs total if all your horses do 150 hbs (effectively a 0% chance). I think the probability of the worst case would be something like (1/1000)^5000 x (1/150)^5000 which has way too many decimal points to write out vs. the best case of (999/1000)^5000 which is ~0.67%.
With 1,000 horses your chances of a damage free day are much better (~36.77%) and you’re also never going to get the worst-case day (still too many zeros).

In any case, like Ammit said, since you have a much higher showing bonus with 5,000 horses than 1,000 horses, it won’t impact your income much at all.

Also, if I’m reading the change log right, if you’re away, you can only get damages on 5 days out of every month, so while there isn’t a total cap, the amount will still be limited. So the only time it could make any kind of impact is if you were logging in but creating new horses without ever showing them.

bluchrystals - I don't know where you got 145 from. The average is 75 a day per 1000 horses.

So on 10k horses, the average would be 750 per day? What would be the max?
