Continuous auctions are live!

What is the change?
Auctions no longer run on a "Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday at 8" schedule. They now run every minute. You can set your desired starting bid and how long you want the auction to run for in days. After that time has elapsed that auction ends.
Why is this changing?
The auctions really only work well for a small handful of players who happen to have consistent free time during the auction's end run. They have never worked well for a large number of players. This is bad for buyers for the obvious reason that if you can't use the auction it is worthless to you.
It was also bad for sellers though. The small number of buyers, inflexible auction conditions, and every horse having to be bid on at the same time meant that bids were far lower than they could have been. We should see a significant improvement in sale prices now.
With the new system, you can promote your auction horses on the forum. Since they can have any starting bid you want, run as long as you want, and take bids the whole time, you can use this new system to automate your auctions. No more having to be online to close them or fussing with chat rooms for the sales.
Can I still sell my horses back to the game?
Yes. Set the starting bid to the default 2,500 hbs and the auction bidder will automatically place the starting bid. If you place a starting bid of any value less than the lifetime payout of a horse age 10 or older it will instead bid the lifetime payout of that horse.
If you place a starting bid that is more than the auction bidder is willing to pay, your horse may not sell
Why does it say I bid on my own horse?
If your starting bid is higher than the auction bidder max, you place the starting bid instead of the auction bidder. This functions as your auction reserve.
What happens if my horse does not sell?
Nothing. If your starting bid is not met the horse simply does not sell.
What is not working yet?
I am still working on getting the rescue auction running nicely. It is working right now but is a bit inelegant. The "Last Week's Sale Records" page and the "Bid Watcher" pages are a bit of a mess right now and don't understand the new system. I will be updating these probably tomorrow.Need to contact me? This looks like another great improvement. Thank you.Thanked by 1Ammit

Right now when you bid it tells you that the auction will end in xx hours. Perhaps if it also said what time it was ending, eastern ntime? Adding 17 hours to 507am is not easy

That is a very solid suggestion. Added. :)Need to contact me? Read this first.

For somebody who relies a lot on the auctions, this is a great change! I'm excited to see how this works in practice.Thanked by 1OopsDotCom

Can I please clarify 'Sell back to the game'? At present, I use the 'Sell back to the game' button on the horse's page and get 1000 hbs immediately for my strictly in house horses. This is so that nobody will buy them. Does your explanation above replace this, which means there is a chance that someone will buy the horse, or will the old way of selling directly back to the game remain?
Thanks for all your work on this new system. :)Thanked by 1OopsDotCom -
How does this work for the bulk Send to Auction. Does anything change?Thanked by 1OopsDotCom

Humboldt sorry your question is too vague for me to answer. Can you be a bit more specific? The bulk auction works like every other auction entry method, but it seems like you may be trying to ask something different than that.Need to contact me? Read this first.

@white valley sell back to the game is totally different from the auction. Sell back to the game is as you described - you sell back to the game, you get 1,000hbs, and the horse is removed from the game. This is still an option.
The auctions were reworked with new timings, and with the ability to place a reserve. If you have a group of speldings you dont like, you can now put them in auction for 1 day at a 2,500hb reserve instead of having to wait for a tues, thur, or sunday sale. This does mean players can bid on them, to answer your other questionPost edited by bravo52 at 2023-01-25 06:56:09Thanked by 1WhiteValley -
White Valley sorry I missed your post. Both ways sell the horse back to the game but the way you are talking about has not changed at all as bravo said. :)Need to contact me? Read this first.

This morning's updates:
-I fixed a bug where "Current auction payout:" was showing the current payout for the wrong account.
-I updated the past sales list to show more information and to be relevant to the new auction system.
-The bid watcher was fixed to only show horses where you are not the owner of the horse.
-Both the auction catalog page and the bid watcher were heavily updated with the search style horse loadouts so you can actually see what you are bidding on. They now also show both how much time an auction still has and when the auction will actually end.
-The search now shows how long the auctions have left. No, we can not sort by time left, please do not ask. It would make the search much too slow.
-The lined rescue has been updated so that it will now enter one horse in the auction at the top of every hour to space out its sales as much as possible.
With these updates, I am calling the new search finished. I will be moving on to focus on other things. :)Need to contact me? Read this first.

Ammit - how do we sell horses back to the game via auction? I put a few foals in the auctions last night at 2,500hbs each and they didn’t get bids, so they remained in my barn. Was this a glitch or do I need to do something differently moving forward?
Thank you !Thanked by 1OopsDotCom -

Last night the old auction clean-up scripts ran and reset the auction. These have been permanently disabled now and won't trigger again.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I was unsure about how the minimum bid would work for bulk auction, but I now see that it automatically sets to 2500. I missed that when I asked my question. Thank you. -
I've read this all again, but I'm not sure what happens if your horse is set for 2500 and doesn't sell. Do these go back to you again or do they sell for 2500 the way the old auction ran. In other words, do you get stuck with unsellable horses?
-
I've just read back through my bookmarks and found where Ammit says nothing happens, they just don't sell. So the foundation rescue won't be buying horses any more? And how would you get rid of the ones you don't want to keep?Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2023-01-27 14:41:54

@OopsDotCom If the starting bid of the horse is 2500hbs (or the lifetime payout for horses 10+ years old), they will go to the auction bidder if no one bids. Check the page of horses you have in the auction and look at the bid history. If the auction bidder has placed the first bid, and no one else bids higher than that, they will sell to the auction bidder. If you are listed as having placed the first bid, and no one else bids higher than that, then they will go back to you. If you had entered another sale price higher than 2500hbs (or the lifetime payout for 10+ yo horses), you will be the first bidder. If you leave the default value when you enter the horse in the auction, the auction bidder will place the first bid and the horse will sell, no matter what, either to the auction bidder or another player if they bid. If the auction bidder gets the horse and it's eligible for the foundation rescue, the foundation rescue will pick it up from the auction bidder as always.Thanked by 1OopsDotCom

Thank you, Lynn, that was very understandable.

So far I am really liking this! One suggestion: Would it be possible to make the 'my bid watcher' page list the horses you've bid on in order of how long you've got until the auction ends? So the ones that finish soonest are on top?Spiderweb Stables
