Average Foal PT
-
I was wondering if anyone could share the Average Foal PT scores they look for in their pasture bred mares per paper level/generation? I’m trying to figure out when to drop a mare from my breeding program so I can focus on breeding the better mares for that generation. What factors do you guys look for?

I just require that each individual mare is throwing a higher than whatever her pt is. For example 10.40 needs to throw a minimum afpt of 10.60, 10.80 has to throw afpt of 11, ect. Anything less gets culled.

Do you keep every foal? If not, I don't think you're going to be getting a true picture of what the mare is capable of.
I'm not yet at the point where I have the room to keep every foal. -
How many foals do you let her have before you cull her? It seems like some of it is luck

I think its a lucky/unlucky mix between the mare and stallion you choose depending on both parents hidden numbers for breeding potential. Ive had some mares produce better AFPT when paired to different stallions . Like ill have one stallion in 1 pasture for 2 to 3 seasons. The mares that dont produce well i move to another pasture with a different stallion for a couple seasons to see how those foals match up. Most of the time once i change the stallion for the mares that produced poor results i get better foals .
A guide is hard to go by unless your starting with exceptional producers which start out at 10.40pt.
I keep foals that are 10.50pt or higher. The highest ive gotten for a 2g is 11.10pt.
Now if your starting with mares that are yellow papered and with lower than 9.90 pt i just add .10 to .20 to what i would expect to have from said mare. Anything equal or less i speld. -
I’ve been waiting until my mares have had 4-5 foals apiece in the pasture. Then I’m looking by mare at how many of their foals were snipped by the game and what their range of PT scores were. The current batch I’m sorting through are all Exceptional level mares with an Exceptional stallion. I’ve kept all the babies because I have the room (for now). I’m about ready to start breeding my Gen 2 horses and want to pair down the babies that passed testing but came from mares who routinely threw worse foals than their counterparts. Is that too much too soon?

Brandybrookes the game does not have a system like that.Need to contact me? Read this first.

@Dawnsong There's no reason to cull exceptional breeding foundations (or perfect or any rank special) by AFPT, as you already know their breeding ability. They are all good breeders. Exceptional breeders have a breeding ability of 104%, and any perfect foundation have a breeding ability of 99%.ID 195859Thanked by 1ChateauAlbere
