Best in pasture neutered
-
This has never happened to me before. I bred 9 mares to an exceptionally perfect stud. The best of pasture did not pass SBA, but four other foals did!
Here's the foals:

Was the best one actually more uneven, even though the raw breeding ability is higher? I can picture this happening in a pasture with foundation mares and lined mares bred to a foundation stallion. The even 2Gs will pass but won't be best of the bunch and the uneven one would be best of the bunch but not pass SBA.

The mares were all pretty close in pt and all red mares..

Just means the foal wasn't as good as the parents for whatever reason, were they all foundation mares? Can certainly happen with mixed pedigree mares, as their quality can vary a lot even with the same paper levelThanked by 1Fiddler

Mixed foundation and mixed pedigree

I looked through your foals, and there were some uneven breedings in the bunch. Yes, all the mares you used have red papers, but that doesn't mean they have the same or close breeding ability numbers. All of the paper levels have a range within them. So a second or third generation mare with red papers is likely to have higher breeding ability than a red papered foundation mare. Since those higher generation mares were bred to a foundation stallion, they produced offspring with better breeding ability than the offspring of foundation+foundation, but because the stallion is inferior to those mares, the foals aren't as good as or superior to their dams. That's why they didn't pass SBA.

Was the foal inconsistent? SBA also culls if a foal is too inconsistent.Post edited by Ammit at 2023-04-10 11:15:49Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

@ammit ,yup, blue, pt 9.9 and inconsistent.. I'm not going to do this, but if I'd gmted her to be consistent, would she then pass sba? I didn't think it mattered
-
I am unable to guess but might be. If I was guessing I would guess the consistency is why SBA altered her not any reason of quality as people above have suggested.Need to contact me? Read this first.

@Ammit Why would that be, if consistency only affects showing? Wouldn't the horse be better used as a breeder then, unless consistency is heritable?
-
Because members wanted that to be the case. And yes it is inheritable.Need to contact me? Read this first.

If she was Blue papered and parents were B/Red then she must have been spayed due to inconsistencyThanked by 1Fiddler
