Need your feedback on this Suffolk Punch outline
-
Thank the Jenx, we have another one! Let us know what you think about Suffolk Punch. We tried to go for a Percheron originally but decided we needed a proper extra thicc look and the Suffolk Punch was more what we were looking for.
Things of note: The muscle lines are just there as reference notes and will be changing.
ETA: This horse is not standing neutral it is our first horse who is bridled up. Hence the head. The future tack items like harnesses will not look right otherwise. This breed is also shown in a surcingle not with a neutral head posture.Post edited by Ammit at 2023-05-10 13:46:50Need to contact me? Read this first.

In looking at a lot of Draft horses the past few days ; it seems to me the leg and hoof need to be thicker / larger over all. They almost look to refined compared to the Chonkiness of the body
-
When we looked at the breed that is what they had. They are chonky but not crazy heavy-boned. This seems to be the normal look for the breed.Post edited by Ammit at 2023-05-10 06:43:13Need to contact me? Read this first.

Maybe just a little fuller in the shoulder/chest?Starstruck2 on Bluegrass and Forest

Beautiful! The only small thing would be to see the nose a little less tipped in. He looks a little cramped in the throatlatch. A bit more like the head of the photo you posted.

i think they have a stronger jaw

I guess its just the Elbow and Stifle joint that look "off" compared to the photograph, might just be the way the leg is placed compared to the chest with the front leg though. I dont think I am explaining it well ><
And the feet are way too smallPost edited by annismyrph at 2023-05-10 10:11:57 -
Only thing I see is maybe alittle rounder in the chest? It looks alittle flat :) and the front legs look alittle short compared to the back but that could be because I’m just staring at it lol
Love this linework!Post edited by Kurihund at 2023-05-10 08:18:36Thanked by 1Ammit -
I think it would look better if the lower neck tie - in with the shoulder was higher, more steep from neck to chest. Most examples have an almost straight line from the throatlatch to sternum where this line has a wider angle.
Also the elbow should be higher, the point of the elbow is below the ribs in the line but all the examples have it well above.Post edited by ichigo at 2023-05-10 09:47:29Thanked by 1annismyrph -
Jenx has been getting their practice in LOL you can clearly see progressive improvement from the first line art to now, great job. I do think we could give them larger hooves, here is a pretty good reference for comparison. I adore the slightly roman head with a little refined dip, Suffolk's are big but a little classy <3. The line detailing around the pasterns throws off the illusion of feathering. I would erase the details so it doesn't give the appearance of a feather mohawk on the pasterns. Other than that *chef kiss*Thanked by 1Fiddler

I agree with a lot of what has been said. I think the head should be not tucked in quite so much, the chest should be a little rounder and plumper, and the hooves should be a little larger. Also, I think the pasterns should be slightly more angled but the hoof itself more upright. It looks like draft hooves are shaped more like a bell sitting flat on the ground rather than the single smooth slope through the pastern and hoof that the lighter boned horses have. Otherwise, the rump, the neck, and overall it looks great. :)

The whole point of this update is not to have to make every single horse have the same pose doing the same thing. We are being pretty conservative with this first set to make sure we can make it work but long term the plan is to be able to do much more dynamic things. :DNeed to contact me? Read this first.

That’s exciting news! I love dynamic, I’m excited to see where you are taking it!

I'm not sure...it might be just the angle, but to me the line drawing may have too pronounced of a hock. It seems the actual draft has more of a "straight down" stance to the back legs. Hard to tell with the fore ground leg placed to the back though.
-
This is not a generic draft it is an SF. Our references do not show it being straight down for this breed.Post edited by Ammit at 2023-05-11 03:00:30Need to contact me? Read this first.
