The quality of mares
-
Could some mares of equal pt and papers throw better foals than others or is it chance?
-
PT has no affect on breeding ability, and each paper level has a range it covers, so mares of the same paper level can have different breeding abilities. Even horses of the exact same breeding ability and bred to the same sire can throw better or worse foals just by chance, even though their top potential was the same. I have perfect foundation sires that have an AFPT over 10 and others only around 9, and they've all been bred to the same mares, so that difference just comes down to chance.Thanked by 1Fiddler

Chance has a lot to do with it. This is because both PT scores and breeding levels are not single fixed points, They all refer to a range of possible hidden random numbers.
The range for the PT scores is small, compared to that for papering levels, which is shown by the fact that PT scores can range from less than 0 to 14.0 (I think that's the top, but I may be behind the times there.) However, each decimal point in the score still is not a single point. Ammit has deliberately designed the game to include a very life-like randomness.
There are a very small number of named breeding ability levels, so the range indicated by the increasing levels from showable only/failed through C, B, A, and Star/Gold is much, much greater.
The life-like unpredictability is a large part of what makes the game so endlessly fascinating.Post edited by SandyCreekAcres at 2023-05-13 14:55:18Thanked by 1Fiddler -
@SandyCreekAcres The highest PT of horses currently living is 15.30 as far as I can tell lol
-
WOW
In my dreams.. how does that even happen? -
Not a clue. Highest I’ve bred is 14.3 and I bought a foal that I made consistent and then maxed out that went from 13.5 to 14.3 to 14.4Thanked by 1Fiddler

Maxed out double boosted parents can have a foal when maxed out and boosted can PT in the 15's ; imo thats ALOT of money (HB's or r/l cash) to spend on a foal just to be "highest" PT score that month. But we all play this game differently so more power to them :)
Also ; if all things are equal ; you can breed the same mare to the same stud 3 or 4 times and get 4 different results ; just like if you have 3 or 4 kids ; chances are they are not all going to be exactly the same ^_^Post edited by annismyrph at 2023-05-14 08:09:58Thanked by 1Fiddler -
My thanks to Fiddler and RedtailFoxFarm for updating me on the increased range of PT scores.Thanked by 1Fiddler
