Baby goat season 2023 (plus calf pictures!)
  • As promised in my last post, here are some photos of the new babies! Trying to get pictures of them right now is difficult as they are still trying to get use to their legs (so I have more blurry pictures than clear pictures :)) )
so here are fresh out of the womb pictures because I'm so excited over these two!

Cou Blanc (black and white) is the buckling. As with all bucklings, he's not the brightest. He was born first but his sister is beating him at all milestones. He is sweet as all get up though!

Black is the doeling. She stood within 5 minutes of being born which is the fastest I've ever seen a baby stand! She also has her momma's attitude already which is not my favorite quality of her mother :))

Momma Narnia is doing amazing given she did not bond with Dudley last year.

Fun part of this cross is I was holding my breath that dad was a non agouti carrier as he came from 2 Cou Blancs with a Black grandfather on his dad's side so I knew there was a very small chance of him not having an agouti gene on his dad's side.

Thanks to hunt and jump I've been able to get quality animals in the colors I want without the guesswork :))

  • I can't wait to start raising goats again :x I have just one right now. My 8 year old Pygmy doe, Blizzard. She currently lives in what's going to become our garden lol. Once spring/summer comes, we will build her a new pen so we can actually plant in the garden :))

  • I am so so SO excited over these two babies so here's some dry pictures from yesterday. They are still really hard to get photos of since they are so wiggly :))

The doeling has a name! Hopefully if the ADGA will accept it, she will be "Limited Edition BN Sable" - she is a spicy little thing already!

The little boy doesn't have a name yet, my husband wants to name him Dombok because if you say it fast enough it sounds like "Dumb Buck" :))

  • Awww I miss goats also ; what I dont miss is milking at 6 am in January lol

  • @annismyrph we usually start milking at 4am because we feed in the evening at 4pm but we decided to dam raise this year so I at least have until may before I have to start milking providing I don't extending babies being on mom for a little longer than 8-10 weeks

Our first show isn't until May I believe unless I skip that show because we have a doe due May 15th and her babies will be pulled and bottle fed because mom is psychotic

  • Dam raising was the way to go for us. It made it so we only had to milk once a day and made it so much more practical.

  • We used the goats milk for the GreatDanes , as well as the kidds, most were partially Doe raised but weaned off kind of early so we could continue milking for use ; Goats milk ice cream is the BOMB

  • We typically bottle feed to preserve udder structure for show. We do make soap, coffee creamer and a bunch of other things with the milk but ultimately it's all secondary to showing. I wanted to get out of the horse show world and tried showing a few others animals but ultimately I loved the goat show world. Everyone is so great and most are absolutely willing to help when needed. We've made friends with some really big names in the dairy goat show world which I was never able to do in the horse show world.
  • Yeah the goat show world is AMAZING and made me realize how toxic the horse world really was. We love it. Even at Nationals everyone is lovely.
  • @KhaosAcres They are gorgeous babies, good luck with them!
  • @lecobb8 it really is and it's sad how toxic the horse world can be especially seeing what it can be when you see the goat show world. Granted, there are some pretty gnarly goat people but they seem few and far between. Growing up, I don't remember the horse show world being as self centered as what it seems now but at the same time people are more inclined to cheer on a child than an adult. I just remember running poll bending on my geriatric 15 year old Quarter Horse gelding that was arthritic from injuries he got during an trailer wreck in his younger years and hearing everyone get get hyped up really felt good but when I ran the same polls 10 years later at 19 on the same horse, it was crickets.
  • I just realized I haven't kept you all up to date on the 2023 kidding season!

We have 5 beautiful babies on the ground with another doe due as of May the 15th (not much to report there :)) )

Narnia's twins are 11.5 weeks old now and are huge! Last Monday, the buckling (Limited Edition BN Moonshine "Dom" or "Dumb Buck") weighed in at 64lbs at 10 weeks old. The doeling (Limited Edition BN Sable) came in at 54lbs making them the biggest babies we have ever bred and raised at these ages!
Dom went to his first show last Saturday and came home with 1 Grand Champion, 2 Reserve Champion and 1 Best Of Breed!
Sable has her first show June 24th.

Our French Alpine doe, Ace, gave birth to buck/buck/doe triplets on March 25th. I'm in absolute love with this bunch! They've been named Limited Edition BA Aces Wild, Limited Edition BA Royal Flush and Limited Edition BA Black Widow.. we've decided to keep back Widow and Royal as well as Sable and possibly Dom unless his hormones don't level out soon and he keeps being a turd.

We also have a baby on its way with our Mini Zebu heifer! She's been having discharge today so I might be able to show you all baby cow pictures tomorrow!

Also, sorry for the photo dump! ;))

  • Our kidding season ended this morning with buck/doe twins.... unfortunately we had to let the little buckling go as his lungs were not able to sustain life even though they were overdue by 5 days... the little girl is going well but very small and frail... Pokerface isn't the calmest doe and being a first time mom, she is being attentive but is scared of humans so she's been plowing over her daughter if we need to go into the stall for any reason... we may end up pulling the little girl for her safty and putting her on a bottle (not an ideal situation for us right now...)
