Having Trouble Getting Site to Load - Solved
-
Hi all. I usually play on my phone and I am having a very difficult time getting this site in particular to load while I am on a wifi connection. I get a connection timed out message every time. For some odd reason, it works fine when I turn off my wifi and use my data instead. I thought it was an issue with my internet at first, but any other website I visit works just fine. I have cleared the cache on my phone, closed browser windows, restarted my phone, turned on optimization mode, used a different browser - and nothing has worked. I was just hoping maybe someone has run into this or something similar before and found a solution. Thank you in advance.
EDIT to say I have also reset my modem and router multiple times. Pretty sure this is a me problem, but still hoping for advice.

Sounds like a DNS issue with your internet company. It happens sometimes. Basically, the instructions used to get from our server to your internet company to your home is broken. That is why one internet company works for you and not the other.
You can google how to do a "DNS flush" which might fix the issue for you.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Thanks Ammit! I will give that a shot.

Well, that did not work. Thanks for helping me diagnose the problem. Tried to connect to the site via my husband's phone and my laptop as well and still wouldn't load. So, I'm sure you're right about dns. I will have to go into full on troubleshooting mode after the tiny humans are asleep tonight.

And... I'm back. Well, my husband and I have been at it for roughly 4 hours now and we can't figure it out. We called our isp and they said the problem wasn't stemming from them. We've done dns flushes, multiple router and modem resets and reboots, and played with the modem/router security settings. The weird thing is, we can get Hunt and Jump to work, but only for a few minutes at a time after we've freshly unplugged or reset or flushed something. After this grace period, we are right back to timed out sessions and error messages. Another thing we tried was a ping test to www.huntandjump.com and out of the 5 packets transmitted, 0 packets were received back. And the ip address it said we were pinging was 104.120.139.18
Any input or help anybody could offer would be greatly appreciated. I love this game so much and really don't want to stop playing it.
It might be worth mentioning that we have a super old router (802.11n wifi version) that we are going to replace. No idea if this is even pertinent since the website isn't working on wired connections either.
Again, thank youPost edited by Soliloquy at 2023-06-14 21:02:27 -
I have a lot of trouble connecting, and sometimes when I flip to a different topic or horse or whatever it just loads and loads. So whatever you do that succeeds, I want to try that. I had computer tech support go over my computer a little over 2 hours and they couldn't find anything wrong.Post edited by OopsDotCom at 2023-06-14 23:46:25

Problem solved, but not without a ton of work. My husband ended up moving us to a free dns server separate from our internet service provider. There are step by step instructions to do this if you do a Google search, but it does call for some tech comfort. Don't know if this info helps anybody, but I figured I'd leave the info here just in case.Thanked by 1annismyrph

So you're not using your isp any more, you're using a free one? Do I understand correctly? (I don't know what a dns server is.)

So, I am still using the isp, but my husband went into our router and modem and changed some of the settings. So, we use a different service to translate domain names into IP addresses. For some reason my isp decided it couldn't or wouldn't translate for this specific site anymore. So now we use a middle man, so to speak. I don't feel like I'm explaining it very well.
I will say that I think you have a different problem. I wasn't able to access h&j at all. It sounds like you can still access the site, but are having issues with loading speeds? I hope you can figure out an answer for your problem soon! -
Ya, what Oops is talking abut does not seem to be related at all.
So frustrating that the ISP who was very much at fault was like "nah not on us" that is the typical response. Glad you figured out a work around.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Any suggestions? I do have another site that won't load at all. The site said they couldn't find anything wrong.

@OopsDotCom, if it's loading time that's the problem, it could be for a number of different reasons. If you are playing on a computer you could try downloading an app called CCleaner that will clean your cache and internet cookies for you. Sometimes those things can slow you down. You just need to run it every other week or so. It could also just be a slow internet connection.Post edited by Soliloquy at 2023-06-16 09:48:25

Thank you, Soliloquy. I will try that.
