Employment Update
  • I just completed my first week as a CNC programmer. I'm not sure if it's my skill level or a bar set really low, but they have been impressed with my progress over the week. My trainer says that I seem to have a knack for it and should be functioning independently by the end of the month. I even got a raise, much to my surprise. I am so grateful to my employer, as CAD/CAM has interested me for a while, but I had no prior experience in it. So far it's much better than almost any laboratory job I've held.
I still am working on learning Javascript, but the progress with that is slow. I'm open to any ideas on how to learn it. I'd like things I can work on offline so I can be outside in fresh air while working on things.

  • that's wonderful congrats. It's so huge to find a job, and to excel as you are is awesome. You shouldn't have that much trouble with Javascript, i do wish you luck.

  • Congrats! Once upon a time, a long long time ago, I went to college for architectural CAD :D I didn't end up finishing in the wake of the 2008 recession (I was paying out of pocket instead of with student loans), but I still do some CAD drawings on the side for my mom's manufacturing company she works for. I do the drawings that go to the folk with the CNC machines now and again. It's fun working with the big guys on occasion, Mack/Volvo is local and I've done a few drawings that ended up being part of their engine manufacturing process. It's great to see someone who's also into CAD, I feel like there's not many of us! Keep up the good work!
  • That is awesome. Well done!

  • Thank you, everybody! I'm still learning things, but I can tell I've made progress, as I am not asking some of the same questions repeatedly, and I'm helping them get ahead. They are particularly impressed because I had not experience either in the particular industry or CNC/CAD/CAM. At some point, I will be operating the CNC machine to get a better idea as to the process.
