Why am I paying so much for barns?
-
You have 14270 non primary barn stalls
You pay an extra 177% on stalls.
a 1000 stall barn used to be 300ivs and now it's 922? why so much and why am I am 177%? did I miss something?

It's been there for a while now. It's a soft cap on stall space to try and slow the huge barns from getting bigger and bigger.
I think it's a good idea even though i'm suffering a bit haha. -
Here's a link to Ammit's October announcement about this.
http://www.huntandjump.com/forum/discussion/24627/warning-barn-prices-via-ivs-will-be-changing#Item_24 -
It's amusing to me that after I make my next barn purchase, I'll be considered a big barn, even though I don't have that many horses compared to others, lol. However, I can perfectly understand the reason why.
-
okay so I can have horses in ppastures and they will not count, but they don't make any point therefor no money..
-
okay then does anyone have a way to cut down on horses .. how do I figure out which horses to keep and which to get rid of
-
When I need to make room in the barns I open the search and search through my show horses by age and overall points.
Starting with the oldest I cull the bottom overall point earners from each age group down to 9-10years olds.
I only cull leveled off horses and ones that are sitting in last or nearly last place. Some of the younger leveled off horses that are placing mid level can still pick up tons of points so I only lightly go through and shave off a few of the bottom from each age. That way you will also keep the majority of your daily show bonus pointsPost edited by Bandit1119 at 2018-02-16 17:28:39Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
The way I've been doing it is to breed approximately as many horses as I need to replace the ones that die at rollover. If I lose 700 horses on March 1st, then I'll know I can breed about 700 foals in March/April without needing to worry about more barns to house them.
I haven't bought a new barn in over an RL year... which is probably a good thing since mine come with a whopping 218% surcharge. -
Considering the massive resource strain a barn your size puts on the server it's a good thing for everyone. You could afford to buy more if you really wanted too but it does stop you from just buying them because you feel like you should spend on something.Post edited by Ammit at 2018-02-17 05:39:24Need to contact me? @bandit.. that's a good suggestion.. would you mind walking me though how you do you search?
@Ammit.. how much would a new super server cost?
@stonesilo... Im not that big yet.. on average I breed at least 100 foals a year. I basically stopped doing egg breeding and live cover everything I can with the exception of my best producers or a line I am actively working on
-
"You have 14270 non primary barn stalls"
That puts you as one of the top 10 (maybe even 5) largest barn in the entire game.
There is no such thing as a "super server"Post edited by Ammit at 2018-02-18 02:51:54Need to contact me? Read this first.

This is the search I’d use. You can put your own ID# in the owners box. I started with 18year olds. I do have older horses but they are quite thin already from passing over.
I go straight to the last page and I’d cull #34-37

Then I would go and adjust the age to be 1 year younger

There’s quite a gap between 70&71 and 70 doesn’t have a bad overall points for its age. In fact she has more points than some of the older ones I’d pick to cull from previous age groups.

I’d cull #38-40. I know their points are lower because they’ve spent quite a bit of time in my pastures. Although if I look at their show records #39&40 are both in fairly good spots and are earning a handful of points per show so if I really didn’t need much space I may keep them but cull YJLb 3437432.
I start at the oldest group of show horses and work down each age bracket and only cull the last 5-10 max. As you go down the ages you’ll start to notice trends of points and may decide to cull a few more or less if they are really under or over preforming the age older or younger. I used to go through once a month and shave off the bottom few. It keeps the real stragglers nipped without hurting your daily show bonus too much (the horses I picked would loose about 3,000 points or 321hbs/day which is a drop in the bucket when I earn 188,044hbs/day in show bonus and my show bonus goes up at least 3000points over the week from showing my 4000show horses lol) I stop when I reach 10 year olds and I only cull the horses that are leveled off.

Oops forgot what server I was on for a minute. The horses I picked hold roughly 3,000 points and earn 214hbs/day not 321hbs/dayBreeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes

Something that i am noticing is most of the horses i would sell and be useful to new players are ex breeding horses. I don't want to sell these as people buy them and change their names and that irritates me in their pedigrees. I wish we could fix names after a certain age.Thanked by 1Kintara
-
Wow.. Okay I have a lot of work to do.. I;ve been of the mindset that if they are showing they are earning points therefore earning me a daily bonus.
@Ammit I had no idea i was that large!
so I have to find mmy older leveled off horses with low points? or just leveled off horses that are not earning points? -
Great idea! Fixing names and tack would be a great addition to the game, as it often keeps me from giving good pointed show stock to new members.
I give away show stock that has always been geldings and spays, but I have more to give, if it was not for the fear that names and tack would be changed, and my pedigrees would be messed up. -
Oh absolutely! if they are showing (and placing above last place) they are definitely increasing your daily bonus and you should hang onto them as long as possible. But if you are running out of room and can’t afford to/ don’t want to buy another barn weeding out the underachievers is a good way to slim down the herd without impacting your daily show bonus too heavily.
I would start weeding through my oldest down to about 15 years (gives most a few years after leveling off to really level out) then step back and evaluate if you need to continue pruning or if it’s ok for now.
Maybe start with a look at your breeders and see how many stalls you really need for next breeding season and make it a goal to open up that many stalls?Breeding even generation Grullos with KP, Axiom RBG & Wrong Warp, Chinnchilla, Onyx, Phantom Autumn, Bats, Ghosts, Pumpkins, Skulls & Spiders, Plaid, Watercolour genes -
When you sell a horse doesn't your points drop when they leave? I keep almost everything I breed, and yum all the foals that don't pull in good scores from the start. But then again I am really not that big and have been really careful about how much room I have. I don't have mares that permanently stay in the pasture, so I'm able to show everything.
-
Yes, they are earning you points as long as they stay in your barn (or pasture, or whatever.)
But if you're like me you probably have some 14 and 15 year old horses that only have a few points. Say 200. That horse is only earning you 100 hbs a week, a drop in the bucket of one of the big barns who is really feeling the pinch of the increased barn price (on purpose!) There's a value-to-cost ratio, a point at which weeding out those underperformers to make room for foals instead of buying a new show barn is a better idea.
Plus as I've discovered those horses with 200-300 points are a huge benefit to smaller barns, where their average horse might only have 50 points. -
For reference my average 14+ horse has over 1000 points. And that is with mostly foundations or low gen horses.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I don’t understand, wouldn’t the assumption to be to keep them in their stall until they pass?
-
Opportunity cost. -link
If you are out of stall space you can either buy more stalls or make space. The more expensive stalls are the more financially smart making space becomes.Post edited by Ammit at 2018-02-20 14:44:25Need to contact me? Read this first.

Understand that, just as far as short term it seems long run would be to save the stall for an older show Horse making you 500$ a week for 8 weeks for each of it’s remaining years.
-
They are talking about tossing bad older show horses not your 500 a week earners.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Wow! She's been in the game longer than I've been playing HaJ2! That's a great point total she's reached in her 28 years of showing. Congratulations.
If my current highest point holder can remain in the game another 11 years, maybe she'll equal it. Right now, at 17, she has 5490 points to her name.
SCA Joan Be Willing -
I just threw a bunch (50ish) of older horses in the auction. All have point between 75-200 point
-
Right now my best show horses have between 3,000 and nearly 4,000 points each.
-
I have 5285 stalls over my primary barn.... I only just noticed that I have to pay 57
% more for barns! Im not sure how I ended up with so many stalls? -
this is mine:
You have 14060 non primary barn stalls
You pay an extra 174% on stalls. -
I have to go back again this year and start weeding.. its very time consuming but they will end up in auction or for sale for 500
