Are you able to paper your horses? Breeding Inspection is the name of the test that does that. It does cost 100 hbs for intact horses.

E.T.A. Just found a post on the HaJ 2 forum that definitely states that papering horses comes with a Basic Upgrade.

You can try breeding them for at least 3 seasons to see how they do.

It's up to you whether your spay them. They may be about as good as the filly that was "best of the bunch" meaning about the same or only a little lower in breeding ability.

You should run them through Breeding Advice, if that test is available to you. (It's been many real-life years since I upgraded to what is now the Premium Upgrade, so I'm not exactly certain what tests are available to you.) That test will neuter any horses that are significantly worse breeders than their parents.

When you breed your first pasture of the season you get an email saying which foal is the best. There's been some troubles with some of the email providers for some time, but I think both hotmail and gmail works now.
