The difference between Amber Champagne and Sable Champagne?
-
I created this chimera horse that is Amber Champagne Appaloosa on the Primary DNA set and Sable Champagne Appaloosa on the Secondary DNA set.
WV Baltic
Looking at the genes I couldn't figure out what made one Amber and one Sable as both seem to be bay based. I tried clicking the link to the Genetics Guide but that just brought up an error page. I tried putting the terms Amber Champagne and Sable Champagne into the horse color box on the search so that I could look at examples, but all the horses seemed to have E?A? in their genes. I tried the Member Created Wiki but that has nothing. I tried looking at Herd Helpers but there isn't one for Sable Champagne. Can anyone shed any light on what the genetic difference is? -
It's how dark they are.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

If I remember correctly, removing the champagne will make one strand Bay and the other Brown. Amber champagne is Bay champagne and Sable champagne is Brown champagne.

The wiki has a section on amber vs sable champagne on this page:

Thanks everyone. @Cavalynn - I followed the link and that helped enormously. The pictures are from the Genetics Guide that I was looking for but seems to have gone - now I know where it went! I obviously didn't look hard enough on the Wiki. :)
