We need to talk about the Akhal Teke
  • Like the quarter horse, the breed comes in a wide range of styles. I am guessing those who voted for the Akhal Teke are interested in the extremely light-boned versions but I want to be sure of that. The breed ranges from super light to a more warmblood/tb look. (Also I don't know the proper names for these looks, please share if you do!)

So please respond below with which of the types pictured above you are most interested in seeing and also why or what makes it attractive to you. It will help us a ton to figure out what you actually want to see in the game.

ETA: **Please just give feedback on the style and weight of the horse not the specific confirmation as that isn't relevant. Think of it like picking between a halter quarter horse, a foundation quarter horse, and a reining quarter horse. The specific horse is not the question but the type of horse is what maters here.

  • Ultimately, I’m open to anything. It kind of seems like what I like best depends on how the fully finished BC looks. With the two light horses we have now, I like the posture of the Arabian way better than the Saddlebred, but I’ve stuck with the Saddlebred because I like how the colours look on it best. If that makes sense? The Arabian has more visible lines, especially in the lighter colours. The Saddlebred has a bit more dimension in the shading.

So if I like the way it looks finished, I’m open to all Teke types. That said, my interest in the Teke is purely if they are a light boned. If any of them would be considered medium bone, I’ll loose interest just because of how much competition there is between them and the many many other medium bone breeds. (I’d be more interested in an old type Morgan or a nice Quarter Horse or the coming Andalusian)

    For the posted examples:

I like the 2nd Type A’s build better than the 1st type B’s build. And I like both type C’s better than the second type B.

So I think for me it would be between type A and C. Both type Bs are a little underwhelming. I think it’s just their overall conformation that I’m not fond of. All the other examples look more balanced and well-built.

(But, if everyone else ends up liking B, I’ll still be open to it if I like the finished product)

  • I ended up really not liking how the shading on the Sb came out and two users have actually mentioned really not liking it so we will no longer be doing shading that way. We have moved to a more realistic shading style.

We are only adding these as light-boned and are looking for feedback more on type and bone weight rather than confirmation. :)

  • A or C for me then :)
  • I'm liking the structure of set A best (but I love the color of the second one of set B and the second one of C so those colors NEED to be available for set A)
  • My favorite Akhal Teke is a beautiful cremello stallion that I saw on Facebook a few months ago. He's built more like that second type B. Maybe a tad thicker neck. It's such a beautiful breed.

  • Type A or Type C , I like a slightly thicker Akhal Teke and Type B looks Ewe Necked to me on both versions.

  • Type A is what I think of when I think of an Akhal Teke, but it hasn't been a "go to" breed for me so if the people more familiar with the breed choose a different style I'll be an "anything goes" type of girl. ;)
  • Type A for me, more elegance overall, refinded head and graceful neck is what I pictured when I voted for Teke.

  • Type A is definitely what I had in mind — it’s the lightest along with being more distinctive and identifiable as far a breed characteristics go
  • My brain always says "greyhound in a horse body" =)) but then I'm crazy so it makes sense to me!
  • As Jenx likes to say "I try to draw them as horses and not just weird dogs but some of these horses make that really difficult!"

  • @bluchrystals greyhound in a horse body is the BEST description lol
  • I like type A best, next I like type B, but I don't like type C because to me it doesn't look unique enough to be worth a new breed characteristic. Personally, I think BCs should be typey enough to add a lot of variety to the game but not so extreme that it feels weird to have a whole breed of horses like that. In the case of the Akhal Teke, I actually am okay with a bit of ewe neck because it's distinctive and will be different from many of the other BCs that have very arched necks. It seems to me like a good chance to have that variety in neck type without it being a flaw. (Though I am torn on that because I do find myself drawn to the Tekes that have slender, almost-ewed necks but with a bit of arch at the top, like the first picture, so the head and neck doesn't create that sharp angle.) Above all, my favorite trait among these Teke pictures is the high withers and athletic look through the ribs and hip. I like the slanted hip and a bit of rib showing because, again, it's different from many of the more rounded, filled out BCs we'll have.
  • I like A the best, looks elegant and slender. I'm not a fan of the 'ewe-looking' necks in B. Can't wait for these, Tekes are one breed I've been waiting for!

  • I'm personally fond of Type A. Type B can work if certain Teke features are present. And Type C has been called by some Russian Studs a Modern Teke. They are typically selected based on athleticism and not type and can usually be mistaken for Warmbloods or other breeds.
  • Interesting I have heard the exact opposite that the very light ones are called the modern type.

  • I like type c the best!
  • I’ll always lean towards the more functional builds… type C is a horse built for speed and endurance.
  • I personally like type A or B for how typey they are. Type C looks too generic for me. Tekes are one of my favorite breeds, and I'd be far more likely to spend my money on a BC with lots type.
