Show me your ideal Akhal Teke
-
Not looking for reference quality images here. If you love Akhal Tekes please post for me a photo (pr photos) of a SINGLE horse that you think best typifies the breed, or is your favorite in appearance. Please only one single horse, additional photos will just cause confusion.
Thank you so very much for helping us figure out what kind of horse you want most.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

It was hard to pick just one, but I think this would have to be it because I opened it in a new tab twice without realizing, so this one must really catch my eye.

Because I don't follow directions, I'm going to break my post down by Type A, Type B, and Type C (using Ammits previous post)
Per the Breed Standard of the Akhal Teke Association of America: "...While degrees of “type” are allowed and even encouraged, all examples of the breed should carry the distinct characteristics that differentiate the Akhal-Teke from other horses..." (website)
It would be possibly to convey an Akhal Teke Type on a heavier frame, as long as certain characteristics were prominent. It really is a breed that I could go on about forever, so if Jenx needs any additional feed back, feel free to hit me up.For Type A: Exotic
ref. unknown. From sales listing in Russia, I had him saved as Hefren but I can't reverse image search him.
This stallion could be in racing condition, or just after. But what I like about him is that his neck is very characteristic Teke, without the extreme eweing that many people object too. When I see his image, I automatically think of an Akhal Teke.
Other Type A horses with more photos:
Polatgush-Shakh, owned by Shah-TekeFor Type B: Sport
ref. Gaon Shael owned by Shah-Teke
Close up head shot
If you click on his name above, it takes you directly to a image gallery and you can see how his body changes with season, age, and action. The two images I linked above I feel represent characteristics of the Akhal Teke, at an angle H&J uses. I added the head shot because it was more along the angle of H&J and I preferred that neck over the other photo, even though it is the same horse.
Perseus-Geli (owned by Russian Stud Geli Teke), ignoring his hocks, I'm using him as an example of body, neck, and head. For Type C: Modern
ref. Dengiz, 20yo stallion, owners unknown.
Close up head shot
Other Type C horses with more photos:
Abrek, 20yo stallion, owners unknown.
Maddokh-Shael, 3yo stallion, owners unknown.
Peinar-Khan, 10yo stallion, owners unknown.
So I included Peinar-Khan mostly because of the head shot, but I also wanted to show how DIFFERENT he looks depending on the photo. I do consider him to be more of a Type C, but showing some extreme Teke features that I don't really feel like they balance him out.Akhal Teke Foal Refs

Akhal-Teke colt Aguilar, headshot ref since body is moving (credit to Vera Trunova on Facebook of Stavropol Stud)

The images are larger, but I used the Width tag to make them more uniform in the post. You can right click and select open image in new tab to get the larger size.

Fantastic and very well-informed post thank you so much! Can you pick one horse you think would be the best sort of horse for us to have in the game?Need to contact me? Read this first.

I think Type B with Gaon Shael, but with the other head and neck picture lol.
While I love Type A, I feel like Type B is a realistic middle ground. Like Type A would be younger, maybe racing at 2-3yo. Then with Type B they are transitioning into a sport like Show Jumping. Maybe they are 6-7yo. And then as they get older, or as they move into dressage, they become Type C lol
I also think Gaon Shael is a good balance of having attributes that make up a Teke, but none of the things that people are critical of.Thanked by 1Ammit -
Apologies for the watermarked photo. I was stuck between two examples and tried to sway myself to the other, but I think I like this one just slightly more.
This one is probably more type “A” the other one was more type “C” :))
If you do a reference photo thread I’ll post the other lol -
Here is another one of Gaon
I try to find good photos of horses in Turkmenistan, but that is not very easy.
Here is one from the presidental stables in Ashgabat (Tasirli):
Probably young
Future tack pack?
Not sure where this one live, as the text say Turkmenistan, but I am not sure about he landscape
It is way easier to find videos of horses in Turkmenistan, the first one is a documentary in Turkmen, and the other one is dzigitovka on speed! From what I can see, it seems like the turkmen horse is more quadatic and less long-backed than in the West, and with a very fine neck and head. I have heard description both as swan like, but also dragon and snake like, to describe the expression
the documentary with some nice shots

@Herzeloyde try and pic one horse, please. This isn't for references right now it's just to help me figure out what of the breed type people actually want in the game.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Yes, I just try to get a grasp of the Turkmen type, not the easiest task, the country is very closed, but it is interesting that they seem to prefer a different type than many western akhal tekes, with shorter back and stronger topline, and more fuller body
I give up editing the first post, the documentary from Turkmenistan is on youtube if anyone want to see, it is called Ahal Teke Belgeseli from TRT AvazPost edited by Herzeloyde at 2023-09-27 05:30:01 -

@Ammit ooooh Gadar looks even better in his full body shots.

@BlessedByBrigid it’s on this page https://akhal-teke.org/the-breed/at-lines/ — He’s listed as Taimaz 812 as an “example of Boinou descendants creating the Everdi Teleke line” born 1953

I love how evident the golden sheen is on Taimaz, even though the photo is in black and white!
