I got downsized from my job last week. It came as no surprise, as I had been working about half time for weeks, if not at least a month. Because I saw it coming, I had been applying to various places and have met with far more success this time around, as I have had an interview every day this week thus far, with two tomorrow. I've decided that I am done with laboratory work for good, as the long term prospects are limited and on the boring side. I'm just nervous about this change, as I have had an number of temporary jobs over the past three years, and I want stability in career and income. At one of my interviews, one of the people who interviewed me was someone I had graduated college with, and he had been with the company all these years, building himself a good career, while felt like I had to beg for the least courtesy, bouncing around several companies. I'm looking forward to the job shadow tomorrow, as the business seems a good prospect, but it's hard for me to hold a positive mindset when I remember other times where things seemed to look up but never really turned out.
I want to get a motorcycle, but my parents are against it. My mom thinks I'm too easily startled to operate one safely on the road. My sister thinks I should get a snowmobile instead. Don't they understand that I want to be out on the road taking myself places? It hurts because I took the class, passed it, and got all the safety gear and have even tested a motorcycle out on the road at 45 mph/75 kph, and yet I'm somehow an irresponsible child. I want the one I tried, and I nearly bought it. At the time I was working two part-time jobs, and I thought that I should wait until I got a full-time one. I'm afraid the one I want will be gone, and it's a nice one. I have the money in my savings and want to get out on two wheels yet, but I feel stuck.
I also miss my ex. We had such good, long, and deep talks, and I enjoyed learning about technology from him. I want to reach out, but it's likely for the best that I not.Game number 273531

You should always be looking forward, not back. I am assuming there was / were reasons you guys broke up, even though there are good times in that relationship, you do need to remember the reasons why it didnt work. I personally would really think about the motorcycle unless you live in an area you can ride it year round. What transportation do you have for nasty days? Also, this person you went to college with may envy You for exploring other options insteads of being in 1 job for "ever" . Even if he has worked his way up, what new skills has he learned? Compared to the new skill sets you have learned? Be proud of yourself you are getting Interviews even if they dont pan out into actual employment. When the right one hits you ll know and get it.

Anni's right. Looking at the past is won't help your future. The guy you went to college felt the need to boast bc he feels insecure. It sounds like you have the right mindset even if you are a bit worried. Trust the process. Trust your instincts and trust yourself. If you ever need advice or just to talk, we're all here ready and willing to help. :)Craven Hill - 86081

I think you guys are being a bit harsh toward the guy. He tutored me in physics in college and was courteous to me in the interview; I never detected any bragging. I got asked multiple times over the course of the three-hour interview about my job history, and I can understand concern. Think about it from their perspective. The guy I shadowed today had concerns about my longevity due to my history, especially in the last three years. He said he's heard from a lot of people who are going through the same thing I am. I have one more interview tomorrow.
I got an offer from a company where I interviewed earlier in the week, and I accepted it. The manager said that he had made up his mind fairly early on that he thought me suitable. I need to go through a background check and drug screen, but I should start fairly soon.
I will likely get a motorcycle once I get more stable income; I want to use it as some transportation due to improved mileage over a car. My ex would ride his if the roads were clear, regardless of temperature. The good weather lately makes me long to get on one.
I found out after the breakup that I was diagnosed with autism last year but due to an oversight was not immediately informed. My former has it as well, and I think that is why we developed such a bond. He also said he thought we were too similar and didn't balance each other enough, which I thought was baloney. He was the only one I could have certain conversations with.Game number 273531

Well YAYYYY on the new job!! That was quick! And I dont think I was being harsh, I just wanted to give you a pipck me up ; cuz you never know, he might have been like wow she has all these different skill sets, and I dont have them. Yes Motorcycles do have awesome gas mileage, I just wanted to make sure you wouldnt have to rely on it as your only means of transportation if you live in the "snow belt". I have to say, as a mother, I am proud of you about being open regarding your autism, it actually allows you and others to be aware of the signs you might need help.

I'm guessing we just misunderstood that part of your post. To me, it sounded as if he was making you beg. Sincerest apologies. :)Craven Hill - 86081

I apologize for the lack of clarity on my part. I meant in general that a lot of people seem to glide through the job search process in general, while I have slogged for the most part. I do have a car, so don't worry.Game number 273531

I always found it hard applying for jobs too. The nerves and pressure always seemed to get the better of me. Hang in there. >:D<Craven Hill - 86081

Regarding the breakup: it came out of the blue for me. There were no big fights or any abusive conduct. I thought we had what it took to work, and I said so in a letter. All he said was that he couldn't force the feelings for me, which a number of people scoffed at. He has autism as well, so how much that plays into things, I don't know. I will be talking with a relationship coach next week to figure things out. I miss being with him and his family.Game number 273531
