Eras and Color lines
  • Those of you who breed color lines do you worry about the Eras?

When I was going through my Black Light Horses, most of them are era 5, but I noticed a few sneaky 6's. I thought about keeping one color line per Era. I always struggle with organization. I feel like my barn is always a free-for-all!

I just wanted to get a pulse on what other breeders where doing.
  • I've never paid attention to era, TBH. I believe that foals always default to the lowest era anyway, so when you breed the 6s to the 5s, the resulting foals should be 5s, right?
  • I don't pay attention to eras myself either. Era is just saying how old the line is. Yes, foals inherit the lower era number from a parent if both parents aren't from the same era. I wouldn't worry about it, though.
  • It would be easier to incorporate new blood if you didn't worry about the Eras. Thanks! I appreciate the info. That's one less thing to be OCD about. :)
  • I worry more about generations than eras. I breed color and quality but my barn if a blingy free for all with pretty much everything thrown in the mix.
  • I've never even looked at era - to me it doesn't matter because that's really only relevant if you're trying for the Era leaderboards.
  • I don't even try for the leaderboards, I don't do boosted lines, my lines tend to be more natural progression. I'm always surprised if one of my horses sneak into the leader boards.
  • I don't pay attention to Eras. I also cross my colors. I have DP in most of my lines. I just keep even lines.

  • I mostly breed the same era's to each other, but that's really only for era LB's, and plus it helps me keep lines organised and is just a way for me to group them.

I'll often breed a newer era stallion to the older era mares for some new blood, but I don't really ever breed an older era stallion to newer era mares unless I'm chasing a particular colour so a one off cross here and there
