HJ1 will be changing to a once per month breeding schedule
  • I'm torn on this news...I understand it's better for the game when you look at the numbers; players, cost of upkeep and all..but it will be hard to adjust. I think I have a pretty big barn, but I'm nowhere near the top I'm sure, and I still normally don't get all breeding done in the time allotted. Of course that's because it's harder to get on than it used to be (busy job, kid and all). Either way we'll adjust.
I guess the question is...what is the main difference in HJ1 and HJ2 going to be? Would it be more economical to somehow merge them?
  • I have removed a post that crossed the line into toxic and abusive. (Ranting about totally unrelated things that happened over 5 years ago). While verbal attacks are not welcome, feedback of course is.

  • I also wonder if you could just merg both hj1 and hj2 coz what is the difference between the two now?
  • You can't merge databases like that. It's not just the user and horse ID numbers. It's the barns, upgrades, show results, colors, EVERYTHING. It would be like merging two different time streams and trying to resolve all the conflicts. Also why would we even want to merge them? Tons of games have multiple servers for the same product. That's a totally normal and common part of games. It makes it so you can have more players with out crashing things. :)

  • Thanks for explaining =)
  • I will continue to play and I will adjust HOW I have to play. I am in the camp that wishes we had more notice to be able to change our game play. I hope this is a push for new players, not just a push to out the older ones.

This the most expensive game I ever played, and in the past I did invest hundreds of real dollars. I am pretty self-sufficient now, but I think I earned that.

My show horses will never have a chance at a name in my stable now, but that is OK! The game ran way to slow for me for so long, I had to just dump them in barns the past few seasons. Now the game loads SO much better, but I won't have the time to catch up and name them. Maybe with the bulk name generator that can change.

Thanks for the opportunity to vent.

It's life support to be honest. The income of HJ1 is so low now. It's not sustainable. The game has to have to new members or it will die. End of Story. That is simply the only future for it. I feel it keenly that this is going to be hard for some.

Thanks for the opportunity to vent.

Of course! I hear you guys, even if there really is nothing I can do about it. I have (obviously) been here longer than anyone. It's not easy for me either so I totally get the need to work out feelings about it.

  • Yeah. I have mixed feelings about this myself. I'm a dinosaur, but not a big dinosaur. I just broke 1000 stalls this season, so I'm not what I would term a big barn by my standards, and it has taken me nearly 8 years to get that far. However, due to the change in breeding season length, instead of having 8 months to GMT horses and whatnot (IE, spend real life money because my barn income isn't enough to support it, since I didn't show horses under the old show system), I won't have the time to plan and budget my money so I can spend money on this game. I mean I get why Ammit is doing this. Sometimes you gotta do what's best for the business model, and not what's best for long time consumers. It's just going to be a very difficult transition for me. So I will have to re-evaluate my breeding goals and whatnot. I will also have to look at my horses and do a serious cutting back which means my old favorite lines will have to go. I fear at this point, that it might be the end of the line for my foundation breeding stock, since I won't have the time flexibility to GMT foundation stallions to my liking because of budget constraints. I don't go for the super expensive GMT genes, but I do like having DP, and that's not cheap by my standards. I also will have to decide exactly what base colors I am breeding for and stick to that. I also most likely won't be buying any more LE genes either, but I am not ruling it out yet.

Like someone else said, thanks for letting us vent.
  • I am usually one to keep my comments to myself for the most part, but also feel the need to vent. I too am saddened by this news, as HJ1 was my real money spending server. If there were genes that I wanted to purchase, they would always be on this server. It has been tough to do all my breeding on both servers as is, and have decided that I will most likely be letting go of my HJ2 account, as the features on both will be identical. I feel that there is no point in carrying a premium upgrade on both servers now. And my barns are just too big to maintain both well.

On the other-hand, I do remember as a new player, the struggle in finding things to occupy myself with on this game (that is why I created an account on both servers when HJ2 did come out). Therefore I do think that having a breeding season each month is beneficial for the new members, and I understand the reasoning for this change. Who would have thought 6 years ago, when I first started, that the tables would be turned, & I would have the opposite problem then when I started, lol!

Thanks for your hard work Ammit, in keeping the game fresh & interesting for everyone. I know you can't please everyone, and you've done a wonderful job in accommodating the new & older players. You have kept me in this game for just under 6 years now, & I can't see myself walking away anytime soon :)

  • I'm obviously firmly in the camp that isn't excited about this in the slightest, but change is never easy and you will inevitably lose some players any time big changes like this are implemented, it's the nature of the beast. It just sucks that this particular change is one that will likely drive out some of the long term players. A lot of the players I started with were around my age or a few years younger, meaning we've gone through a lot of major life changes in the last 10+ years, and the slower nature of this game is the only reason we've been able to hang around this long. It will be sad for sure to lose some of those players, or to end up leaving myself, but I completely understand that new players are imperative to keeping the game going. I played a lot of FB games and such years ago, and saw most of them die out. Even then, my observation was that the way the games were set up made it incredibly hard for a new player to get going and basically impossible for a newer player to ever reach a point of being competitive with longer term players, regardless of how much real money they pumped into the game. Inevitably, in any game, your longer term players will often spend less money because the cash spent earlier on has helped them be more self-sufficient (which I already mentioned was certainly the case for me - I spent a LOT of money between my first stint on Hajinc, Shoco, and my return to HJ1, more than I care to even know, but now I don't contribute any actual cash beyond my monthly upgrade and maybe an occasional pasture simply because I don't need to). Without the new players coming in, hanging around, and putting money into the game, those other games couldn't sustain themselves. I don't want that for the game or for Ammit, even if it means I have to end up bowing out.

I hope it ends up being one of those things that I'm blowing up in my mind that turns out to be no big deal (or even a positive thing), but I know I'm that weirdo that will stress out and feel like I'm wasting my upgrade fee (you know, the one that's equivalent to a trip to Starbucks... Yeah, I already said I was weird) if I miss a breeding season or don't get my breeders named before the year rolls (I stopped naming the altered horses literally years ago). If it does end up being an issue for me though, I harbor no ill feelings or anything about it all, and thank you Ammit for providing a game that we feel so passionately about.
  • It will for sure push me to be better about culling horses who I don't breed often or who don't improve my lines!

My biggest concern is the good ones now aging out so much more quickly...might it be possible to up the age where they start dying off from 18 to 20 or 22 to compensate a bit? I know I'm not like most players in that I try to keep it more true to life--I don't boost and don't a lot of AI/IVF. I know I can pull straws/eggs from the good ones, but I'm kind of attached to them, KWIM?

I do think it's good for newer players and smaller barns--I've been back in the game after a couple years' hiatus for about 2 years now (I think), and am just getting some good 4th gens now, so on that front speeding up the process will tell the long-term quality of horses faster, and that's a good thing. The downside for me is that I generally take the full 2 months to breed and even then don't get them all, so it may lead to less breeding for me.

One question (pasture breeding is new to me as I just haven't used it...as of now, it's 30 days for a mare to reach full potential...will that time be reduced with the change? Forgive me if this was addressed; I could easily have missed it!

  • . I've been here for 11 years and I really don't want to start over. I adore the more relaxed pace here. I really don't want to have to start over again in fact I don't think I would. I;ve spent too long building what I have.

I understand the need to make it easier on the servers and and to try to get new players over here.

I am really not happy with the horses aging so much faster. can you not make them age .5 years (6 months) instead of 1 year each month? maybe allow them to live longer and breed long to balance it out. I spend too much on them for them to age out that quickly and I know some of the old time players do as well.

I also don't fully understand the new aging processes and how that's going to work. I tried hj2 and I found it too different and too fast paced. I came here and stayed.

What will this mean for gmts, and the breeding lab?

I do a lot of gmts and boosting and cloning.. how is this going to be affected?

I saw a post about pastures.. does this mean I need to increase my number of stallions to get everything bred and then only keep my special girls for AI? Will there be changes to the breeding lab? One change I wish for is that the horses drop down menus didn't change until you change them or you run out of eggs/straws.. kinds of like the selling ones don't move.

Are the genetics going to change? Whats differnt on HJ2?

This is a lot to grasp in a short amount of time. I am pretty sure I am going to need a little (okay a lot) of hekp with some of this and to be honest while I understand why it must be done, I'm just not happy. If a fast paced world.. this is just relaxing and informative and peacefull for me. they change is goingto be hard...

Yes, they'll age faster in real calendar time, but in game time it'll be exactly the same. You'll have the same number of possible breeding (or show) seasons with any of your horses than you have now, that time will just pass faster on the real life calendar. It shouldn't devalue what you spent on them - if you had 15 possible breeding seasons from a horse before, you'll still have 15 possible breeding seasons now. Those 15 seasons will just happen over 15 calendar months instead of 30.

At least as far as I understand it, nothing changes except that instead of a year lasting 2 calendar months, it will now last 1 calendar month. There should be no need to start over, nor do I see how it would affect GMTs or the breeding lab or anything else. The pasture talk is just a suggestion for those of us with largerish barns and limited time to spend on the game. Breeding in pastures is infinitely faster than breeding each horse individually so we can use our game time sorting/naming/testing foals instead of spending that time doing the actual breeding.

  • With life and work and the lack of decent laptop it takes me 2 months to get through breeding my pretty huge herd. Now I have to narrow it down to 1 month... ick. Time to cull.

Gonna be a big change, played this game for 11 years at 2 month breeding seasons, but then again bigger changes have happened in that time that have endured!

I can see myself moving over to HJ2 eventually, I had started a few free accounts years ago but let them fall to the wayside in favor of my premium here. Guess it may be time to start investing in 2 with another free account and building some foundation lines in preparation. Just sad to see that necessity after building lines over years, buying genes and horses with real money to just see that go away down the road. But I suppose there's still plenty of time to keep making pretty ponies over here.
  • Haven't logged in for a while, so have only just seen this post! I play on both servers and HJ1 definitely feels like it's been dieing a bit so can understand the change. More clubs and a more active community on HJ2. As much as a like the extra time HJ1 offers, I know it will be fine going to once a month breeding. Sure you lose horses quicker but realistically it keeps the game moving, and I have so many I probably won't miss them!

I definitely feel more comfortable sharing horses on HJ1, there is a lot of 'breed all the pretty colours' breeders with no thought on quality on HJ2, so I hope that doesn't happen exactly the same way here. But I guess those are the ones spending the money on HJ2. I know I spend more money on HJ2, probably because of less income for gmt's and simply the faster pace means more new horses too.

So I guess my thoughts are it's probably a good thing, but I hope there will be some differences between the games otherwise I'd assume there wasn't any point having accounts in both. It would be good to see a more active community here on HJ1

  • I worry about that as well.. I've been keeping a lot of stuff close to the belt and I only share in group or with a few select people. I brred color but I breed quality as well
  • Oh no I don't want server 1 to go away! It's fun. Even though it's a small community, I think we can bring others on here. If only there was a way for the two servers to merge together, I think that this server would be back and in buisness again. Or maybe we make hj1 like hj2? I don't know. To me both the servers are pretty much the same although server 2 has some perks. But I play on both and I think that If we try, we could get this server back up and running. I don't want anything happen to this server. I hope something good will happen!
  • Clearly I'm a bit behind the bandwagon and I don't normally comment on these sorts of things but I feel super anxious about this change. I struggle as it is so not sure where to go from here. I won't say much as most of the long term players who replied have said it for me. Wish it was the same as 6 years ago, the community has changed so much.

  • Sorry I'm so late to the party, but I've been on break for a while.
My question is (and I assume it's a no): assuming this server keeps dying, will there be any way to move our accounts in anyway to HJ2? Or will all of the time, money & effort we've invested in our stables be lost completely?

  • I also enjoy having profiles on both servers...so I really hope for a revival. This is an awesome game, and it was quite by accident I discovered the second server, and increased my happiness! I have different goals and breeding program in three different profiles (on on HJ1, and two on HJ2) that I would sure hate to lose any one of them!! I would love to know if there are any updates on this situation.
  • I agree, I have played this game for 5 months less than it's been around, spent who knows how much money on my horses here. I don't think Ammit would take that away from us but I'd like to know if there's a plan for the future of server 1.

  • I noticed that server one suggests that New comers join hj2.
