Need your feedback on the Traditional Cob
-
The hair is such a key part of this breed we are showing them with hair for feedback. But there is so much hair I am also giving you a mane-free version of the adult so you can see how it is built. Let us know what you think and if you think we need to change anything.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

I love it! The adult looks perfect to me. I love how the hair drapes over the face. :)
For the foal though, I think maybe the joints could be a little thicker, maybe the whole leg a little thicker too, especially the front ones. And maybe the head could be a little more tucked in. And I'm not sure if it's an optical illusion or something, but the ears look a bit big to me, like they were actually selected by themselves and scaled up. Even the line weight looks heavier. -
Perfection!
-
I think the top line of the Adult needs to be a little straighter ; closer to what you are showing with the foal. I dont think ive ever seen one with "that much" dip on it. Other wise they look great!
-
I agree with Cavalynn about the foals ears being a bit too big, and I think its head is maybe just a little too long, making it look a little heavy headed.
For the adult, I agree with annismyrph that the topline is a bit too deep and should be straightened a bit.
Otherwise, I think the proportions are good, and the adult's mane looks amazing! -
The funny thing is we already fix up and corrected the foal's ears some. The baby we used has reference had the biggest ears I have ever seen on any horse. They where MASSIVE. This is the reduced size. :DNeed to contact me? Read this first.

I agree about the topline too!
The first thing that I noticed was the front legs on the adult, it looks slightly 'over at the knee' if that makes sense. I feel like the line from the knee to where the fetlock would be (In my mind at least, I know it's covered by feathers in the pictures) is slightly bent too much for my liking. I hope that makes sense haha otherwise I could sketch it out -
I love it!
Being nitpicky, something about the head/neck/throatlatch connection seems a little off to me, but like I said, that's nitpicky and would probably be a very small/petty change-- if it even needs to change at all. I think it's absolutely adorable, and I plan on buying it.
(Along with the Teke which I keep obsessively watching for :)) )
Edit: I think I figured out what feels off to me about the head/neck connection. Now I just have to figure out how to best communicate it lolPost edited by paradoxphoenix at 2023-11-13 14:52:56 -
Like I said, this is petty. But with the angle of the neck, I would either change the angle of the head more “up” or, if you want to keep the head angle the same, slightly elongate the neck just a smidge.
-
If the neck were going to be changed, I like the second one that paradoxphoenix did with the head angle the same.Thanked by 1MackZ

It is very rare that we make changes because of feedback from a single person, so unless multiple people on multiple servers say the neck needs changed we won't be altering the neck. Otherwise, we would go crazy making constant back-and-forth edits. So we just go for the changes that are consensus. Hope that makes sense. :)Need to contact me? Read this first.

And, like I said, it's petty/nitpicky anyway so if there's no consensus, I'm fine :DPost edited by paradoxphoenix at 2023-11-13 17:44:58Thanked by 1Ammit

IF the mane wasnt as long and floofy I would agree with the reset of the neck and head ; but with That much hair in the way ; we wont see it anyway lolThanked by 1Cavalynn

Well I imagine in the perfect world, these bases will be getting tack packs for them, which could mean customizable hair. I do prefer Paradoxes neck and head suggestion, but the one on the left.
In the final submission, I would prefer not to see the eye covered up. For those of us that breed dilutes/splash/tigers eye, seems like a shame to hide it.
Other than that great job (just please give me the eyes lol). -
I'll second seeing the eyes. I hadn't even thought of that
-
Alternative forelock suggestions:
A braid might be super cool lol -
I also agree with Paradox on the neck/throatlatch. I like how they redrew it as an exampleBluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

I agree about the back - looks a touch swayback almost. Might be going against the grain but I kind of like the foals outsized ears. If I had a dollar for every young critter of any species I've ever raised that had to grow into their ears I could pay off my house lol. And back when I was young and my parents were raising horses it wasn't unusual for a really good looking, well put together foal to become the most derpy looking yearling... then go back to being very well conformed. Dad's farrier bred Arabians (not sure what type, we're talking 40odd years ago) and he had the most gorgeous, could be used as a pin up of ideal Arabian foal conformation filly one year. By the time she was a yearling she was awful... dad used to tease his friend about hiding that a draft from the next farm over jumped the fence. By three, she was gorgeous again lol.
Long story short, I like slightly derpy foals that need to grow into their conformation.
Now I need to save up for *another* breed... -
Draft foals, and heavy warmbloods for that matter, kinda remind me of mule babies. Everything is adult size and then they grow into it lol.
-
I agree that the top line on the adult should be straighter
I also think the head/neck connection almost seems pulled in or scrunched even with the mane covering everything. Changing the head and neck positioning also might make it easier to have the forelock positioned where it’s not covering the eye. Personally, I like the right side drawing that paradoxphoenix did
Draft foals always look a little wonky and disproportionate. Same thing happens with large dog breeds especially with their paw size. Different body parts supersize faster than others lol -
Wow all of it looks good to me, just like @paradoxphoenix is showing around the neck area of the adult fix that and it will be perfect, I like the head position that you used @Ammit but just add a bit of a throat latch where the head attaches to the neck just like what @paradoxphoenix is showing you. I look forward to adding this one for sure. Thank you for the halter pose and maybe have forelock on the other side of head so you can see the eyes. :)Post edited by RKO at 2023-11-14 06:30:51Bluegrass id:182429
