News - 3 Days left to enter the GE - Changes to Club Eras - Need club suggestions
-
Just a reminder that Thursday is your very last day to enter the gift exchange, and edit your entries. That includes opting out of having your wishlist be public so you can be sent gifts with RAoG. You will not be able to opt-out after the end of the month
_____
After doing some intensive testing I have found that these days the primary era club lags too far behind. Members are breeding horses that are so much better than they did in the past that it makes sense to move the primary era (that one that gives extra prizes) up. Basically, it is now possible to reach cap quality in just over 1 year of breeding effort so leaving an era for 2 years means it is possible for players breeding in a later era to use smart boosting to dominate an era that they did not build their line in. If you don't understand what this means don't worry. Just know that the change is to keep era breeding competition fun and fair. There is no point in having the primary era come so late that the only horses who are at cap or boosted post cap can compete.
To accomplish that for the next 6 months we will have two primary LB eras.
Bluegrass Primary Era Calendar:
December 23: Era 12 and Era 13 will give extra prizes
June 24: Era 14 will give extra prizes.
Forest Primary Era Calendar:
December 23: Era 10 and Era 11 will give extra prizes
June 24: Era 12 will give extra prizes.
Mesa Primary Era Calender:
December 23: Era 2 and Era 3 will give extra prizes
June 24: Era 4 will give extra prizes.
I am still doing my testing and it is very likely we will have two primary eras in June 24 as well but I am starting with shifting things by six months. Also, I will be manually adjusting these eras after the rollover so don't be surprised if you don't see both eras as primary right away.

I plan to add a few more color breeder clubs to the leaderboard in December. Do you have a suggestion for a color/gene that could use its own club? Let me know below. I will be picking from the suggestions based on which ideas have the most horses that qualify for them.Need to contact me? Read this first.
I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

Oh man, I was literally just talking to my sisterba couple days ago about how I have some genes I'm breeding for that don't have color clubs and my brain is totally spacing grr.
Maybe it was Belton or Halo? Belton I think but I'll ask later today when I call her. -
Why, Belton! Or snowflake plus Belton.
Also, liver chestnut has always been lumped in with chestnut, Can it stand on its own? I don't bother to put my livers in the chestnut club, it's so big it's my last choice.Post edited by Fiddler at 2023-11-27 05:22:52 -
Belton would be awesome! I’d really love a separate Platinum club too. Maybe a grey reduction club as well if there’s enough horses?
-
Didn't we used to have a liver club and then DP swallowed that, and no more liver club?Thanked by 1Cavalynn
-
I love the idea of a gray reduction club. Belton would be cool too.
-
I have done some investigating and made some notes on suggestions I have seen so far.
The largest clubs currently are DP, Appaloosa, Cream and Fantasy Open.
Belton is large enough for a club now. Gray reduction is borderline. Platinum is much too small for its own club and won't be getting one. Some of the suggestions I am seeing for splitting clubs there is no point too. The clubs are small enough already.
We could potentially have E and ee versions of DP, Appaloosa, Cream, and Fantasy: Open clubs.

If you do make a gray reduction club I’ll fill that up pretty quickly! I LOVE gray!I’m autistic and I struggle with any kind of communication, so I apologize in advance if I say anything rude or offensive because there’s a 99% chance that I have no clue I did it. I appreciate your patience with me!

Definitely would love a belton club! I like the idea of splitting the DP club so we have a liver club again. Since appaloosa is a very large club as well, maybe it could be split into solid, leopard (at least, maybe), blanket, and snowcap/few spot clubs? I would enjoy the challenge of breeding particularly for leopards, especially if they could compete only with each other. I think having non-true-breeding color clubs can help competitiveness as well, since not every horse in every generation in a line will qualify.
Belton, liver, and leopard appy clubs would be my picks, if the DP and appy clubs are large enough to consider splitting. -
"maybe it could be split into solid, leopard (at least, maybe), blanket, and snowcap/few spot clubs?"
Those are visual categories and the game works on genetics so it can't see them. Would have to be based on genes or something in the name but I like the idea of splitting it by blanket size better than be E status. Or maybe Lp/- versus Lp/LpPost edited by Ammit at 2023-11-27 10:46:36Need to contact me? Read this first.

Yeah, so the leopard club parameters could be LP/- and not carrying - for PATN, so it would either be hom for PATN1, PATN2, or het for each. Or hom appy and het appy clubs would be a good choice too and simpler. I do think leopard appy is a more distinct coat color in players' minds though, even though the phenotype doesn't label it in the game, so it makes sense for that to be a club?
-
" hom for PATN1, PATN2, or het for each." I think this is probably too complicated of a rule for the game to run. Any LP but divided into -/-. PATN1/- and PATN1/PATN1 might be more possible.Post edited by Ammit at 2023-11-27 11:21:44Need to contact me? Read this first.

What about ASR1? Is there enough to have their own, or can we break down Appaloosa into None and ASR1?Thanked by 1Leefe

ASR1 is about the same size as gray reduction and borderline being large enough.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I like all of those!
I'll add in my vote for ASR1 and Grey Reduction, too. -
I just thought of a question:
I don't know that we're ready for it yet, but will it be possible to have Breeders Clubs for breed characteristics? Like we have for bone weight? If it's possible, that might be fun as BCs get more established.Post edited by paradoxphoenix at 2023-11-27 15:32:31 -

Platinum breeders, if you want a club next time I add them you will need to put many thousands of foals on the ground in the interim. There are several other genes with much larger populations who deserve a club first.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Definitely adding a vote in for Belton and Gray Reduction.
A Tobiano Modifier Fantasy club would also be cool since there are technically two different alleles that fall under that category. But I realize that might be too difficult to set up since TMSG is Fantasy and TMJB is not. (I know it's under the Fantasy gene tab of the horse search engine, but the gene doesn't glow on the horse's page and the red "Fantasy Restrictions" message doesn't appear if the horse has TMJB and no other Fantasy genes.)
Tiger Eye would also be cool since there are two different Tiger Eye alleles. I know it only affects eye color, but it does have its own category in the horse search engine. (And a search of just TE1 with no Fantasy genes or HMGA2 shows that there are 71k+ horses on Bluegrass. Obviously, there are even more if you include TE2. :) ) -
Update on this post. We will once again have two primary eras for the June to December cycle. Monitoring all 3 servers I can clearly see that in the June to December period boosting will displace the top lines from the primary era, meaning that boosting will decide who wins the primary era awards not who was competitive in that era for the entire run-up time. I don't think it's fair for a member who did not participate in an era to get all the most prestigious awards for that era.
The reason boosting can overtake an earlier era is because of the ability cap. With normal breeding, If you are six months behind you will never catch up to the best-performing lines of the prior era. Once the prior era hits cap though they stop getting better so the newer era can catch up.
Pushing the primary era one slot forward again protects the work breeders do for their eras and makes sure they are getting all the accolades for other efforts.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I'm not sure I understand the ramifications here. If I boost a horse who is era 6, he will become era 5, where theoretically there is more competition?
Why is that bad,? -
@Fiddler Because of the breeding cap, those era 5 horses will never have breeding ability above the cap, but a boosted, originally era 6 horse can. If era 5 horses were boosted to get them above the cap too, they'll become era 4. So there's no way that a line that was era 5 all the way can get above the cap and still be competing in the era 5 club.
Edit: It's not bad to be doing this. It's natural for it to be happening in older eras. I think the idea is to avoid having this happen in primary eras before the players who've been breeding their lines towards cap for months get the rewards of their work, before the era above that reaches cap and starts boosting horses to overtake the previous era board.Post edited by Cavalynn at 2024-04-15 12:13:12Thanked by 1Ammit -
i didn't think you could breed above the cap without boosting?
i'm still confused?
-
"i didn't think you could breed above the cap without boosting?"
-You can't
"i'm still confused?"
It's a technical thing for players working the bleeding edge of the leaderboard to ensure fair competition. If it's too confusing don't worry about it. Since you are not on the top of the era 14 lb it does not impact you. It's just there to protect those players that are. The members using boosting to push the limits of the primary era system are the only people who need to worry about understanding this.Post edited by Ammit at 2024-04-15 15:48:03Need to contact me? works for me. Maybe someday i'll be up there with those guys!

Is maxing out now going to have an era penalty or we talking about the 5% boosting to overcome the cap of horses?
-
Fiddler youve been doing amazing at the futurity boards! You've put in alot of work to get there! :)

The only thing changing is how many months it takes from when a new era starts to when it pays 5 gmts instead of 3 (and gives the bigger trophy).Need to contact me? Read this first.
