Question About Straw Expiration
-
I've been going through some of my genetics and I am now noticing with the new system that the expiration date of saved straws varies quite a lot. I've noticed that some have a 1-year expiration date, some have a four-year date, and some have no listed expiration date at all. I was wondering if there's a way to set it or remove it; I've never set a date for any of them, so I'm not sure what dictates the expiration date. I would like for there not to be one at all, because I have no way to keep track of which ones expire when, unless it's consistent across all of them. I have a basic upgrade account; any clarification appreciated. Thanks, all!

Whomever collects the straws can choose to set an expiration date on them, its a way for people to "control" that they dont have straws hanging out for months or actual years against their straw count for that stallion.

Stallions have a limit to how many straws they can have out at a time. If you just sit on straws and never use them it can really make things hard for the stallion owner, so people set expirations to force you to actually use them or lose them to make space for other people to get a chance.Need to contact me? Hmmm... the ones in question are for MY stallions, for straws that I'm personally keeping, and, to my knowledge, I have never set an expiration date, so not sure why some of mine have one. I'll go back through them to see which ones they are.

If the horse dies and is archived with straws or eggs in the freezer but no living descendants, at some point the system puts a 4 year expiration on them.Post edited by LakeOndowaFarm at 2024-06-16 16:47:45Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses in all the fancy colors.

Basically, if no one could be bothered to breed to that horse in real life or keep the line going I really want to get rid of the horse and take the strain off the database.Need to contact me? Read this first.

Oh goodie. When I was first starting I saved straws from *everything* and they're still sitting there because the only way I know how to get rid of straws is one at a time.

Bulk straw delete is coming with the breeding lab updates, but other stuff keeps insisting on taking up my time. A big part of the reason I cut off the moving sale early is I really need to be able to work on the lab!Post edited by Ammit at 2024-06-17 21:48:29Need to contact me? Read this first.
