New Mustang filly - color help.. UPDATE : She's here!!
-
We just finished the adoption process on this BLM Mustang filly who will be coming home in June.. she's listed as Black but we all know how inaccurate BLM color descriptions are and my husband was looking into her herd (Granite Range - HMA) and seen that Blacks weren't a likely color but Buckskins and Palominos were. I told him we are going to have to wait until we see her in the flesh before assuming she's not black because her BLM pictures, she still has her winter fluff, dirty and probably copper deficient but also told him she may be Smoky Black.
In your alls professional opinions, do you think she's Black, Smoky Black or Bay?Post edited by LEAcres at 2024-06-13 14:16:42 -
she does not have black points on her ears or muzzle in those Pictures.. Id lean more towards a sooty Chestnut. She does have a very nice trot from that picture though!
-
-
She looks black with poor coat health to me. Might be a very dark brown.Post edited by Ammit at 2024-05-14 22:11:58Need to contact me? Read this first.

LEAcres, The video wont load unless I sign in >< But just from that picture you can tell she will have a lovely gait !
-
Thank you Ammit! I had a strong feeling that's what it was!
@annismyrph I totally forgot you had to be logged in to see the video, I went ahead and uploaded the video to YouTube

In the video she looks very typical for a faded black, but could definately also see she could be a dark bay/brown.ID 195859
-
@Maribo I definitely think she's black with a mineral deficiency and the winter fluff isn't helping that. I know she's going to be shed out and sleek by the time she comes home so we'll definitely know next month at least
-
we want to see her after a few months of good food!
-
@annismyrph @fiddler Absolutely!! We want to document the whole process so there will be a lot of updates!
-
Update: Rune is home!!
I'm still having a hard time telling if she's black or dark bay/brown...
She's beautiful either way and is so unbothered by everything!

She looks very much like she's faded black in the tiktok video.
-
It says video currently unavailable.
-
Ah man I can't get tiktok to work either
-
@OopsDotCom @Fiddler apparently posting nothing but horsie videos breaks community guidelines so my less than week old account got permanently banned :))
I made another one last night though so I guess we'll see how long it lasts.. here is a picture instead
Not the best photos because she was either covered in dookie when she got here or is sweating from the heat wave we are havingPost edited by LEAcres at 2024-06-20 17:55:35 -
Wow, cool looking mare!
-
She looks lovely! And does look black to me. If there are creams in the herd she could be a smoky black too
-
Looks like black to me as well. Can't wait to see her in a year with healthy eating.
-
That's a palomino right behind her in the first shot. :)Need to contact me? Read this first.

Update?
-
@OopsDotCom her old, unhealthy, hair is starting to be replaced by healthy hair and it's coming in really dark.
She is gentled and out in the field with my old man... my one goal was for her to meet him before his time came and we accomplished it... however his appointment to depart this world is tomorrow but I am elated she was able to meet my first love :((Thanked by 1Fiddler -
OH wow ! Thats gonna be hard on both of you I think. Take some extra time with both of them if you can. And am So Very Sorry for your Loss LE >< So very very sorry.
-
aw, she's going to be lonesome without him, and your heart must be breaking. She's beautiful though!
-
@Fiddler Thankfully she seems to want to get close to my 2 year old AMHA filly but she always goes back to the old man and he has gotten close to her as well. He will call for her when he wants her to come back and she comes right back to his side.. Without a doubt tomorrow is going to be hard for both of us... 21 years of countless years hidden within his mane just hasn't been long enough.. I'll let her say her goodbyes as long as she needs after he's gone but I think she will be okay..
This is Rune with my 2 year old, Blossom! -
@Annismyrph Thank you! He has a box of his favorite Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal bars for tomorrow! Hes gotten one every single year on his birthday since he was 2 years old! Tomorrow is going to be all about him!
-
Oh that's nice, i'm glad you have another horse to keep her company.Post edited by Fiddler at 2024-07-23 17:35:28

I am so sorry. Losing a loved family member is so hard.

It's been a little over 3 weeks since losing Zeffirelli and my husband impulsively bought a little yearling shetland filly... at first I was a little annoyed but she is so sweet and loving so I couldn't stay mad. She's really helped all of us heal over the last 2 weeks! Rune has been keeping off to herself with the other mini mares so I took the opportunity to use this time to try to get her to build a bond with Zevah. It's been a few days now and they have been attached at each other's hips! Putting them away tonight, Rune didn't follow Z into the round pen with the attached run in we used in Rune's gentling. She kind of squirreled and went past the gate to go look at the Livestock Gaurdian puppy (even though she would love the chance to unalive him at any given moment). They were both in a frenzy until I could talk Rune into going through the gate because I didn't have her halter with me. So I'm counting it as a win with the realization that I have my work cut out for me now with this new found bond :))
Rune's sunfaded, copper deficient, coat hasn't fully healed but she's darkened up quite a bit. I know I'll probably not see her true coat color until next spring and I haven't gotten around to getting her color tested (it's on the to-do list) -
Thank you so much for sharing
-
They look adorable together! And the shetland filly has such a sweet little face. :x
-
The Shetland alomst looks like Rune had a foal lol .. SO Cute! Good Luck with them Shetland Mares can be a true PITA if you ask them to do something they dont want to do lol
-
It's been 2 months since the last so I figured I'd update on the BLM mustang filly, Rune..
She has definitely taken up a lot of my time. I want her to be the best she can be and show everyone how amazing they are! So far shes doing a really good job of doing just that! She was featured on the BLM Eastern States Facebook page twice now! She is gaining weight and growing like a weed! Her coat is so dark! With it healing, it definitely settled any question that she was anything but Black!
Now we are on the hunt for one of her siblings! I was just approved by the BLM to be able to adopt another mustang! Including Rune, she was rounded up with 8 foals in her herd.. I know where 4 of the 8 are (3 fillies including Rune were adopted out, 1 filly sold as Sale Authority last month), it's just a waiting game to see when the last 4 will be posted! Thankfully my application is good for a full 365 days!
Top picture is the day she came home, bottom picture was the other morning :x
We also did an updated video on her tiktok account with how tolerant she is after 4 months being home!

@GoldenHeartAcres My sincere apologies for the confusion due to my miswording. I posted that update at 1am after 5 days of an insomniac fit brought on by quitting nicotine. She is black.
-
@LEAcres, no need to apologize! She’s very pretty!
-
It was clear to me. ", it definitely settled any question that she was anything but Black!" the whole phrase is a double negative though. Meaning what you wrote says she is black. :)Need to contact me? Read this first.
