How does showing work and the point of higher PT?
-
So a while back I was wondering why I never saw my horses make it on the showing categories of the LB. So I thought if I bred better horses, I'd see better results.
Then I started an Era 17 project, and was told breeding and cloning all these maxed horses would produce great show horses. But it's been 3 months now of showing, and 1 horse is on the board with 4 points.
So I started looking into my showing history for the Dun Factor Club, and I couldn't figure out why my horses weren't consistently making it on the show boards.
To give you some context, I've been breeding Dun Factor horses since they came into this game, and have a line that is 16 generations long. Highest PT is 14.80. And 7,192 horses are registered in the DFP club.
For the last 2 years (24 months) I have had the Top Producing Stallion for 16 months, the Top Producing Mare for 18 months, and the Top PT Foal for 20 months.
However my horses very inconsistently show up in the 2nd Gen or Lined Show Categories. It's either a bunch of them, or none of them.
12 Month History
147 - no show horses on boards
146 - 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 for Lined Horses (I took everything but 5th)
145 - 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 for Lined Horses
144 - no show horses on boards
143 - 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 for Lined Horses (I took everything but 2nd and 7th)
142 - 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
141 - no show horses on boards
140 - 9th place for 2nd Gen Horse ; 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10 for Lined Horses
139 - 10th place for 2nd Gen Horse ; 10th place for Lined Horses
138 - no show horses on boards
137 - 1, 2, 5 for Lined Horses
136 - no show horses on boards
Is there something I'm missing when it comes to producing top show horses? You'd think if it was all random, then having 7,192 might produce more favorable results LOL.
If PT doesn't come into show scores, then why do we use it to produce a better show string via bootstrapping? -
Huh, looking at the last 12 months of showing in DFP it's almost as if there is a pattern, and that it's possibly growing.
When looking at the Lined Horse Scores, every 3 months
0, 9, 6
0, 8, 5
0, 6, 1
0, 3, 0 -
I think you are conflating the idea of a profitable show herd and leaderboard wins. They are not the same thing.
The best thing to do is not look at your horses that didn't win but instead look at the horses that DID win. You will gain far more insight that way. Unfortunately, this is the worst day to look into, and yesterday was the best.
Also, era boards and color boards are different beasts and have different metas.
Things you will find on winning horses
1) They are old.
2) They are shown strategically to get as many show entries in the window as possible not just left to auto shower.
3) Higher PTs earn more points as a general rule but best PT does not mean most points.
I recently made a post on here breaking down how PT impacts total points. If someone can find it I think it would help you out. But you can do the same yourself by just sorting all the 18 year olds in the game and sort by lifetime points. You can see what PT does for points and POINTS mean profits, not leaderboard wins.Need to contact me? Read this first.

I know my profits are growing, just because my daily payout grows. But I also like to see ribbons and trophies on my horses, and GMTs of course LOL.

Why is that?

I don't know what metas mean in this case. I honestly find more joy in breeding for the color boards than the era boards. I like to play with the genetics in this game, and it gives me pride to know I can take a color combination, specialize in it, and watch it grow into something on the game. In those cases I focus on SBA, Comp Testing, Papers, PT, and Genetics (in that order).

A post or a comment? I'll see if I can find it.

But if PT gains you potentially more points, then wouldn't more points equal more of an LB presence? -
The leaderboard wins are based on active factors and strategies that players are engaging in. It is not passive. Life time points and points made during the specific window of LB competition are not the the same thing.

Why is that?
The LB is points earned for the month. Everyone's points today is 0. It's the worst possible day to examine trends for LB wins all the data is now deleted.Post edited by Ammit at 2024-08-31 20:29:14Need to contact me? Read this first.

PT is not show scores. PT gives you information about training. Horses with higher ability scores get you higher show performance wich allows you to enter harder shows with more points.
A high PT in no ways tells you a horse will win a lot. It means you have a chance at a horse who wins way more than a horse with a lower PT. Higher PT horses can earn way more points in their lifetime than lower PT horses. The key word is can not will. You have a shot at the big time with a high PT horse a shot you don't get with a lower PT horse. Does not mean yours will be the one that takes it.
Crucially having a herd of high PT horses will get you a ton of points and hbs, but it does not guarantee you LB prizes. Getting a solid show herd and getting them fully aged up is step one. If you make the high PT horses the profit will come. The leaderboard takes a strategy though. For the LB you are not fighting averages, you are fighting other stronger and more experienced players

Here is a hint for figuring out top points LB strategy. Look at the months you won versus didn't, what days of the week your auto show enters on and what day of the week the 27th fell on that month.Post edited by Ammit at 2024-08-31 22:05:35Need to contact me? Read this first.
