Should we limit the number of places you can have per LB category?
  • On the discord server, we have been having a long-running conversation about how to make the leaderboards more engaging and more equitable with an aim for a major update for June of 2025.

One idea that came up as part of that conversation was a limit on how many placings per category a single user can take. To be clear I am not talking about how many placings you can get in the whole of the Black club for example. I mean how many times you can place in Black Best Stallion, Black Highest PT etc. Each individual award category would be it's own limit. They are not combined.

I am considering limiting it so each account can appear between 3 and 5 times per top 25 list. I want to be clear that this will have zero impact on how GMTs are distributed. The point of this change is so that more players have a chance to even earn a ribbon.

In some categories, there is only a single player with a top ability breeding program and they can easily sweep the entire 25 spots of a category. (particularly the PT board) While that is awesome that their program is so strong, this is really discouraging to other players who may feel like there is no point in even trying to enter the club. I feel like the game can reward these players while still making room for others.

-I am aware that we have a number of clubs that the foundation board probably won't run if I add this limit, I will probably have an exception for foundation horses and we may have to tweak some club rules on the smaller clubs.

This change is coming as I think it really helps build-up players just entering the late game, and I think makes for a healthier community. Here is what I want feedback on.

    1) When should we implement this change? Now, for the new era or in June.
    2) How tight should the limit be? How many placings per category should we allow?

Please keep your feedback focused on those two questions. If you have other ideas for LB improvements, that conversation is happening on our discord for now. It will be moved to the forum, once I am ready for that.

  • If it isnt massive, sooner would be better for implementation.
I know I for one am discouraged to see my 13.9 horses not even hit the top 25.. on any of the LB I care about.
I think the Top 3 spots is fair as it still rewards those that used to sweep the LB but also leaves a little wiggle room on the boards for others who have worked very hard on their lines to get on the boards.

  • 1) When should we implement this change? Now, for the new era or in June.

Depends on your time. Considering tomorrow is the 1st, I don't know if that gives you enough time to plan, test, and tweak before they run in December. I would like to see the changes however start with a new Era. Just not sure waiting another 6 months is going to be good for the game.

    2) How tight should the limit be? How many placings per category should we allow?

While of course I would love to see 5, it also has more potential to block players for those top spots. I'd say 3 per category is fair for the community.
  • I think implementing it as soon as is feasible is a good idea. Even though I am equally frustrated at not making it onto the boards, especially when I have 13.5+ pt horses, I don't want to frustrate the players that have built their programs up to a place where they are dominating the leaderboards. I think any limit between 3-5 is fair, but I would lean towards 5. The dominating players can still dominate, but other players have a chance to be on the board and get ribbons.
I love Warmbloods with lots of Sooty and DP. Dark Mahogany Bays, Liver Chestnuts, and Blacks make me super happy. I love horses with color, dfp1, nd1, gray, GP, and KP on the dark base. One day I would like to have a herd of high pt, well papered dark beauties. ID# 257941

  • As someone who does frequently dominate some boards, I’m okay with a 3-5 limit. In those boards where I do dominate, I care more about those top placing horses than the ones placed lower anyways. The ribbons on the others are fun and nice, but not a deal breaker.
  • I think make the change in June and limit to five spots per player per category.
  • Would very much like to see this change be implemented now rather than later (of course with some wiggle room to test and whatnot), so it gives other players who have worked hard on their lines a chance to make it on the LB board. I also think 3 per category would be fair to the community to give room for other players to earn ribbons.

  • I think a limit of three per category per board is a reasonable limit, and I agree that it would be fair to all involved to implement the change as soon as is feasible.
Personally, I get a little disappointed when my 14+ PT or -3.7+ PT foals don't even get a ribbon because one player has all top ten places on a leaderboard. If their work earns them all of the GMTs, that's awesome for them, and they deserve it! But, as has already been mentioned, the 4th - 10th place ribbons are little pieces of recognition for effort and offer a nice visual of that recognition without taking away from the monetary rewards of the leaderboards.

  • I really like this idea. This whole discussion is why I enjoy being apart of this community and game.
    1) I think the change should be implemented in June.
    2) I think it should be limited to 5 spots.

Thank you for all of your work on creating such a beautiful game.
  • Three is plenty. Also I think the sooner you implement it, the better.

  • Five placements award GMTs in the primary era, so if the change is going to have zero impact on how GMTs are distributed, the limit would have to be five at least for the primary era.
  • Thank you so much to everyone who provided feedback on this. We have had a few days and the flow of comments has really calmed down.

Bluegrass was strongly in favor of adding this in right now and at a limit of 3 per account. Forest was mostly neutral and more concerned with how associated accounts would be handled. Mesa leaned toward waiting and having 5 per account.

Combining the feedback of all servers I have landed on the following:
-This will be implemented right now. A lot of players are very intent about this, much more so than the people who suggested waiting. I personally think it sets us up for more informed conversations about the June update as well.
-I will add to the club rules a request for players to limit themselves to 2 accounts per club. It is easy enough if you have more than 2 accounts to just focus/keep entries on the different accounts to different clubs. I have done this with my test accounts in the past and it works well.
-We will be starting with a limit of 5 placings per account per category. This is to help small servers like mesa run, prevent altering the payout on the limited-era clubs, and give more transition time to help smaller clubs/servers adjust.

I am going to roll out the limit of 5 placings per club. I expect pretty rapidly to be making tweaks to help small clubs run, so don't panic if you see clubs with not enough horses. We have over three weeks to massage things and make sure as many can run as possible.

It may help some people to think of it like this: You can have an unlimited number of horses entered in a breed register, but you can only nominate a limited number of horses you own for horse of the year. The game is doing the same thing, picking your best horses and submitting them for lb contention. Everything is just handled automatically.

  • Quick question ; the "new" Miniature BC, which I am guessing is a re vamped "Collectables" BC states only horses under 9 hands tall can be entered.. but on the horse page if I am not mistaken it states under 12 hands it is too small to be riden in shows.. so there is a 3 hand difference of horses floating out in internet space that cannot be placed in any clubs?

  • also to add to annismyrph. can we have something other than "riding pony" it gets quite confusing sometimes. perhaps "Miniature Riding Pony, etc" and initials "MR" etc or something similar

  • You guys have missed a bunch of updates. All of these things are already addressed in game.

    ETA:

    11/28/2024 10:46 AM Ammit added:
Miniature horses will now be entered in shows via auto-enter. The collectible club is now the miniature club. Horses must be proper miniatures and be below 9 hh to enter the club. However, any larger horses already in the club can stay entered. I feel like those members earned those spots and deserve to keep them. Any future horses however will be bound by the height limit.
    11/28/2024 4:33 AM Ammit added:
As collectibles are no more and have been split up into ponies and miniatures, I have removed all the size restrictions from manual showing. Expect updates to auto-showing and club rules in the next day or so.
    11/27/2024 12:49 AM Ammit added:
With our name change comes the opening up of the range of horses we can offer. Collectables are out and miniature horses are in. Horses that are less than 9 hands tall will now be listed as miniature horses and will have heights listed in inches instead of hands. They will be allowed to show, and the club rules will be updated after the awards go out tomorrow.
