General Questions/Unsure
  • So I've been on HAJinc for years now, on and off playing. But never really dived into it all like I'm trying to now.. but there are a few things I don't understand. Mainly, if horses can't be bred after 20 - why do so many people list their 19-21yo mare/stallions for sale for 6 digits? Furthermore, why do some people post their foundation, but red rated mares for sale for 6 digits? I see multiple people do both of these things and I don't really understand why? I see it usually from larger accounts, so I assume they know something I don't?

Also futurities, that is new to me since I started back up - what is exactly the point of locking them, does it benefit anyways?

Lastly, how do you truly pair a good cross? I've had some messing around with an A stud and Red mare but getting a yellow filly who was spayed, then crossed a C stud to a Yellow Mare to get an A cross colt! Is it truly random or is there a way to try and breed better crosses? Thank you!
  • Hi, welcome to the wild and wonderful world of Genetics and the DNA pools that can blow your mind.
There is a new "Wiki" made by players which goes in depth with some of your questions.. its in the "Rescources" guide on the left task bar. It should answer alot of where your confusion is, and if not please feel free to clarify where you need help :)
Pricing can be based on the genes the horse is carrying.. some of them are special and much more expensive than others, some people sell cheap, and some sell high, it really just depends on what you are looking for.

  • I’ve never seen a mare that was 19 years old for sale for 6 digits.
    (Show me)
Some red mares are for sale for 6 digits because they have special genes, like chocolate cupcake, new coke, and there are many more.

  • There is always a wide range you can get from even the same parents, some foals will be worse, some better, and some around the same. You wouldn't have got an A paper from a yellow and C though, but you can sometimes get A paper from B and yellow, or Red and C. They would be the best possible foals you could get from that cross.
Not sure about the 19-21 aged horses up for 6 figures, you'd need to show us an example

  • I am thinking what your seeing for the aged horses if theyre in the auction some have alot of show payout still and when automatically entered thats the set price the auction will pay to take the horse.

If for sale it could be an error on someones end accident adding an extra 0 or it could be breeding fee, or the horse has alot of costly work done to it, alot of points, or is a higher hard to get pt score.

  • Just a slight correction to Kintara's post. It is possible to get an A papered colt or a Blue papered mare from a C/Yellow cross, but it is very rare. It happens when the parents are 'high' C/Yellow. That's the hidden numbers that we cannot see, but which regulate what foals you might get from a particular cross, and that is a range from better to worse, as Kintara said.

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure.

  • I would try pairing your stallion with mares closer to the same quality as possible. A bit ago there were some changes to how breeding works "i think theres a thread somewhere about it" i would not use C papered mares with your A stallion. B could be okay but your best option would be another A to get a closer quality threshold to your stallion.

  • If you are not using strict breeding advice, there is no benefit in keeping to the same quality in a cross, and some good reasons to use the best stallion you can

  • @ Kintara my apologies you are right, my A colt is from a B stud and a Red mare, then I have another A colt from a C stud and a Gold mare! My mistake!

I didn't want to post the horses I saw because I didn't want to call out that account publicly or make it sound like I was hating/complaining. I am just genuinely curious why they are posted for that high, it does make sense if they have a lot of payout still - but would the payout be worth the 6 digits?

Ironically, I can't find the exact post I was referencing when I wrote this, perhaps they sold but here are a few I found maybe someone could explain the prices? Again not hating or complaining, just trying to figure it all out!

  • The Light In the Dark is worth that much because it is young and popular herd helper.

The rest are not worth that at all. People must be paying that if they keep listing at those prices but I would never buy a horse that old for so much. You can buy a barn full of 13+ show horses for that and actually get a return on your investment.
