Proposed shift to futurity award payouts
-
A conversation happened the other day on Discord about how stallion owners get the bulk of the gmts on the futurity but foal breeders do the bulk of the work, take on most of the risk and use the most stall space. On every server, but especially on bluegrass, it is difficult to get people to breed foals rather than just stand stallions.
Right now each era awards 56 gmts. 36 go to stallion owners with 1st place getting 10gmts, 2nd 8 gtms, 3rd 6 gmts, 4th 4 gmts, and finally 5th gets 2 gmts.
The best 10 foals from 1st and 2nd place each get 1 GMT, awarding 20 to foal owners in total.
This is the proposed change suggested yesterday on Discord:
1st place stallion 8 GMTs, best 10 foals 1 GMT each.
2nd place stallion 6 GMTs, best 10 foals 1 GMT each.
3rd place stallion 4 GMTs, best 8 foals 1 GMT each.
4th place stallion 1 GMT, best 6 foals 1 GMT each.
5th place stallion 1 GMT, best 4 foals 1 GMT each.
Before 5 stallions and 20 foals shared 56 gmts, with the proposed change 5 stallions and 38 foals would share 58 gmts.
The largest benefit to this change would be to push the value of foal breeding and reward a larger number of foal breeders in hopes of encouraging breeding rather than just standing of stallions. This is particularly needed on bluegrass where the long-standing culture of breeding to only your own stock has limited the number of futurity participants, but I think would benefit all servers.
I would like your feedback. Should we implement this change for the January awards?
I do foresee a difficult transition period for bluegrass because very few members have been producing those foals, the next few seasons will give extra wins to the few members who were producing foals, but that will be temporary. We have other initiatives in the work especially for bluegrass members to help encourage futurity foal breeding.

Thank you for considering our feedback on this. I think this is a great change and aligns better with message that foal breeding is more important to winning then just standing your stud.
-
This proposed change looks great! I'm looking forward to it. I've been meaning to get back into futurity and other breeding projects in the game again and this would be perfect timing to start. :)
-
I think this sounds great! With the recent changes to surrogacy bonuses, I've been planning to drastically reduce/change my pasture breeding and put more focus on futurity anyway. This sounds like a great way to add incentive.
-
i love the change! it really helps the foal breeder to get something for their hard work.
-
I started when people still had very strict requirements on their studs, so I find myself not participating in Futurity. That being said, I think the proposed changes would place a higher priority on breeding foals for a lot of people.
-
I like this change. It gives more opportunities to win with foals.
@blucrystals - same but I have been slowly changing and expanding to play in futurity. -
I think this would be a great idea. I only participate in one Era for Futurity and wasn't really focused on promoting my stallions, preferring to breed to others in the hope of getting qualifying foals. This change makes it more likely that some of my foals will qualify each month, rather than getting lucky occasionally because there were only two stallion winners. Thank you for the constant evolution of the game. :)

I don’t place much, if any, focus on the futurity, but this change might make it fun to produce foals for futurity stallions
-
Great! Seems much more egalitarian!
Makes those foals more valuable too -
Since the foal breeders are the ones doing the work and taking the risk, this makes sense to me.
(As someone who breeds lots of futurity foals but doesn't get a lot of covers for her own studs, I am incredibly biased towards this.)"Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving." - PTerry Pratchett

This seems much more fair and even though its going to take 3 or 4 months to really see a difference, hopefully some new names will pop up on the leaderboard and not all 1 person sweeping all the eras.. I only breed about 200 Futurity foals a month but it would be nice to see others get a shot at better incentives.
-
I love this idea.
-
Oh that makes a lot of sense. I think it's a great idea to not only encourage people to breed for futurity, but reward the people holding space in their barns for futurity foals.
-
Since this is clearly unanimous on all servers, I will work on implementing this for Jan.Need to contact me? Read this first.
