Gene Quiz Game
-
Welcome back my lovelies to another round of The Gene Quiz Game.
It's a pretty simple premise. I list 3 sire genes and 3 dam genes and you play with search to see if you can find an example of each possible outcome. The person with the highest number of correct answers wins. There is a really handy guide to Punnett Squares here to help you work out those possible foals.
https://hj2.horsegeneticsgame.com/faq.php#877
Keep in mind that the correct order is the sire's gene first and the mare's gene second. So if you are looking at the cross E/E x E/e. You can have E/E, or E/e, but the answer e/E would be wrong.
Example Post:
Ex. E/E A/a p/+ & E/e a/a p/P
(Black, Bay, Pangere)
1.
20053910
E/E A/a p/p
2. (Insert Photo Link of this horse from the bottom of their page.)
E/E A/a p/P
3. ect...
Please include the intended gene string in your answer. It will make this whole thing easier on me.
I honestly don't expect anyone to come up with all the answers to all the questions, so have fun with it and feel free to come back and edit your post till the deadline of February 10th at nightly rollover. Questions do not need to be answered in order.
Update to add: Please answer one letter per post so all your answers fit. I don't want you to lose your work.
Now on to our prizes!
With the assistance of @Vella I offer you...
1st: 700k
2nd: 500k
3rd: 400k
4th: 300k
5th: 150k
All entrants will receive a prize dependent on my bank when I grade these.
So the questions are:
A. -/mu DP/- M/TO & mu/- DP/DP SB1/M
(Mushroom, Dense Pheomelanin, Kit genes)
B. ch/Ch Z/Z TNDR/WTC & Ch/ch -/- NAC/PBP
(Champagne, Silver, Rainbow Riot)
C. E/e TO/SB2 HRT/- & e/e M/W20 SHM/BTS
(Black, Kit genes, Phantom)
D. DFP1/DFP2 x/b -/- & -/- -/W -/Lp
(Dun Factor Promoter, Axiom, Appaloosa)
E. -/Prl Sty/S+ TNR/- & Sno/Cr S+/- ISP/-
(Cream, Sooty, Rainbow Riot 2)
F. G/- -/sp RB/- & -/G spM/- -/-
(Grey, Splash, Rabicano)
G. -/LP PATN1/PATN1 snow/snow & Lp/- PATN1/- snow/-
(Appaloosa, Blanket Size, Snowflake Varnish)
H. chn/- -/Z 8/1 & -/chn -/- 9/13
(Chinchilla, Silver, Ice)
I. a/A sa/sa w29/w10 & a/A sa/- -/SB1
(Bay, Satin, Kit genes)
J. D/nd1 -/Sty -/p & Onx/D Sty/S+ +/p
(Dun, Sooty, Pangare)
K. A/A x/- TNR/ISP & -/- W/g -/TNR
(HMGA2 Height Regulator, Axiom, Rainbow Riot)
L. Sno/- D/nd1 -/DFP2 & -/Cr -/ONX DFP1/DFP1
(Cream, Dun, Dun Factor Promoter)
Please be aware I made up these combos without checking the search. The correct answer may very well be:
1. No horse available.
D/d S+/S+ To/SB2.
On mobile, scroll down to the bottom of the forum and touch Full Site to be able to edit your posts.
Thanked by 1Vella -
Question A is not feasible ( 3 KIT genes)
Question C is not feasible ( 4 KIT genes)
Question I is not feasible ( 3 KIT genes)
Question J needs clarification.. the horse cannot have Dun, nd1 AND Onyx
Question L also needs clarification.. the horse cannot have Dun, nd1 and Onyx ( also can't be HOM DFP1 and Het DFP2 at the same time )
unless I am completely mis understanding what you are trying to do ? -
@annismyrph Each letter gives you the sire and dam's genes and you are finding the gene combos for the foal.
A.
Sire -/mu DP/- M/TO
Dam mu/- DP/DP SB1/M
(Mushroom, Dense Pheomelanin, Kit genes)
That make more sense? -
I totally misread the rules....Post edited by Visions at 2025-01-31 16:07:12

I’m unsure how this is a contest. Clearly, bluchrystals will win everything. I was planning on participating but don’t see much point now. No shade in my comment whatsoever, I love stuff like this too, I just don’t see how this is actually a game in which more than one person can win anything.Thanked by 1MackZ

:-? I thought there was more than one place to win. Anyway, I only played because I enjoyed them not necessarily to win. Answers withdrawn. Have fun.
-
@bluchrystals, there’s no need for being passive aggressive. If you want to pull your answers, that’s on you. I didn’t say you couldn’t have fun with it, but this is supposedly a contest and there are prizes, so that is kinda the point.
I genuinely don’t understand how the setup works. The answers are given in people’s responses because of the genetic string, so all it takes is finding horses with those same genes. Do we post a different horse from ones already found, if one exists? Do we post the same horse? Do we get credit if we post the same horse? You can literally copy/paste the horses already posted and end up with the same score, so how is a winner and second place decided?
I went through the first 3 gene options to find each unique combination and failed to understand how my answers would be any different from bluchrystals. The only difference I found was the age cap they put on their horses. There are horses older than 17 with some of the genes, but that didn’t feel really good to post them in a “haha, you missed these ones” comment just to get a few extra points.
I love the concept behind this, I just do not understand the execution. -
Let me explain how I score a little, I have a spreadsheet with all the correct gene strings. You get a point for showing me a horse with the correct intended genes. The top 5 players win a big prize and everyone who answers one question gets something. This is just supposed to be for fun. I will notice if you exactly copy someone's answers, but there are enough horses in the game that you can participate if you want to.Post edited by Seaswell at 2025-02-02 17:01:16

Thank you for explaining a bit. For some of these gene combinations, there aren’t enough horses, though. There’s 1 and that’s it. What happens in that situation?
-
Then everyone who posted it gets a point. This is a one on one game, your search skills against my score card. What anyone else does doesn't matter.Post edited by Seaswell at 2025-02-02 23:15:22

I’m still not sure that’s true it doesn’t matter what anyone else does, but I sure hope others participate. It’s a shame blu pulled all their answers.

Ok, so, asking more questions; Do we answer like so;
A. sire/dam -/mu DP/- M/TO & mu/- DP/DP SB1/M
First possibility; mu/mu DP/DP M/M
Second; -/mu -/DP TO/SB1
Third; -/mu DP/DP M/SB1
Fourth; -/mu DP/DP TO/M
Fifth; mu/- -/DP TO/SB1
Sixth; mu/- DP/DP TO/SB1
Seventh; mu/- DP/DP M/SB1
8th; mu/- DP/DP TO/M
9th Etc, because I’m starting to not see what I’m looking at, lol. No pen and paper at hand for to do the scribblin.
Then hunt through Search Horses to find examples of each possibility, except obvs the incompatible-with-life combos and add them under each possible permutation?
Then move on to B sire/dam, and rinse, repeat?
Orrrr, am I thinking too hard about this… Thanks!Thanked by 1Fiddler
